Central Fla. Officers Enter Wrong Home, Kill Dog
Central Fla. Officers Enter Wrong Home, Kill Dog

POSTED: 7:04 am EDT May 15, 2006
UPDATED: 12:35 pm EDT May 15, 2006

An investigation was launched Monday after police in Winter Springs entered the wrong house Sunday and killed the homeowner's dog, according to Local 6 News.

The Winter Springs officers went to the house located on Marlin Road Sunday after a residential alarm went off.

When they walked inside, the owner's rottweiler dog approached.

One officer shot and killed the dog, saying it was acting aggressively, Local 6 News reported.

It was acting like a dog who just had a stranger break in.

2. Similar thing happened around here a couple years ago
cop went into the back yard of the wrong house and shot the family's golden retriever...claimed he was being attacked. I've had and been around a LOT of goldens and never EVER saw one act aggressively. :grr:

3. Same thing happened to the guy
Edited on Mon May-15-06 01:48 PM by moobu2
who lived 3 doors down from me a few years ago. The police kicked his door in and shot both of his adult dogs. One of the dogs was female and she was still nursing her litter of puppies. She died and the male survived.

I went down to his house that afternoon as soon as I heard the story, and there was blood and tissues all over everywhere. You could see blood trails where the dogs tried to crawl away into the closet. It was gruesome.

Edited to add ..that this came from a false police report from someone who had a grudge against the guy or something. The guy tried to sue but for some reason the case was thrown out.

4. Back in the 60's we lived in Detroit
My parent were receiving death threats and about 2 in the morning my mother saw someone in the backyard right outside the kitchen window (in a black leather jacket). Without even thinking she did as my father taught her to get the gun and protect herself & children. She shot the man. My father went outside to check on the intruder only to find out it was a City police officer! No charges were filed. I have the utmost respect for the police, I believe they are a necessity. But as with any organization, you have some really stupid people.

5. At the risk of being called names...
that is how it started with Randy Weaver...unidentified persons came on to his property and shot his dog. If you come in my house and shoot my dog and I am home, odds are you are not getting away unhurt either, though I am no Randy Weaver. I would be all for under the various no retreat rules to hold members of a household harmless if they shot police under such circumstances.

6. Last summer, a guy the cops were chasing killed a police dog.
It provoked fits here at DU. People posted about how the guy should be killed (he was) and how animals are better than humans.

I wonder if anyone will be calling for the execution of the police officers.
