Wasn't the Nevada Underground Nuke Test Today? Any News??
I recall that several news reports had the testing of an underground tactical nuclear device in the Nevada desert was set to occur on 6/6/06.

Anyone heard anything about it taking place, or being postponed?

2. It was postponed indefinately
It has been put off, primarily due to the noise people have made protesting it.

5. Thanks for the link
My understanding was this test was designed to measure the effects of a new "bunkerbusting" device which would eventually employ a tactical nuclear payload.

Glad to see it was postponed.

3. 1) Not a nuke. 2) Postponed indefinitely.

Merely a huge amount of conventional explosive. Concerns were that it would kick up some of the old radioactive soil from the nuke test days.

6. I think the government WANTS to kick-up radioactive soil...
to simulate where fallout would go during a nuclear attack on Iran.

In other words, to find out how many two-headed Chinese babies will be drowned in the rivers a year from now.

8. Do a google search on the term "Downwinders"
ARE YOU OR YOUR FAMILY UNKNOWING FALLOUT VICTIMS FROM THE ATOMIC TESTS OF THE 1950'S?

The news that the National Cancer Institute had finally released its report on the health effects of radioactive fallout from nuclear testing is only a few days old. We will be updating this page with new links to informational and support services for victims and survivors of the atomic testing of the Cold War era. Please check our list of articles and related links at the bottom of this page. We are in the process of developing this list and will be adding more shortly, so please check back regularly.

9. It's the 21st Century:

1) I'm pretty sure the Defense Department's weather models could predict the dispersion of radioactive fallout from Iran far better than observing a dust cloud in western North America

2) The fact that the explosion WOULD kick up the dust is what made them postpone it. People are aware of being downwind now, unlike the 1950s.

11. Same weather modeling system that they say is wrong about global waming?
"Nobody could have anticipated the breaching of the levees."

"Nobody could have predicted radioactive sand being rained-down on Las Vegas after a conventional explosive test."

12. OK: The weather models DID anticipate the failure of the levees
...and 2) Weather models do not quote GOP talking points. Only political tools like the morons in the administration do that.

10. thanks for the map and link.
I remember being told not to eat the snow because of fallout when I was a young child. "what's fallout mommy?" "dust that can hurt you if you eat it" "the snow doesn't look dusty mommy" "invisible dust. don't eat the snow".

4. Put on Hold Indefinately
Until more tests are done to make sure no nuclear material is realeased into the atmosphere.
