Update: Abortion ban (Ohio) gets hearing on Tuesday!
Edited on Mon Jun-12-06 10:46 PM by theHandpuppet
For those of you unfamiliar with Tom Brinkman, he's a RW fundie lunatic from the ZINZINNATI area who has waged unending war against reproductive rights and gay rights. If you do a Google search for Brinkman you'll see what I'm talking about.

This is a late afternoon update from the Cincinnati Enquirer regarding a bill that would ban ALL abortions in Ohio, including those performed to save the life of the mother or in cases of rape or incest: http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060612/NEWS01/306120023

Abortion ban gets hearing tomorrow

A bill to ban abortions in Ohio gets its first hearing in the state house Tuesday at 10 a.m.

Rep. Tom Brinkman, a Mount Lookout Republican, introduced his bill last year to create a test case for overturning Roe v. Wade decision, the 1973 Supreme Court decision.

Brinkman's HB 228 would outlaw abortions in Ohio. Supporters see the bill as a test case for overturning Roe v. Wade in light of the new, more conservative majority on the Supreme Court

The hearing is in Hearing Room 313 at 10 a.m. in the House Health Committee.

Ohio already requires women seeking abortions to be told about alternatives and then to wait at least 24 hours. Hospitals and doctors can refuse to perform them. Minors must get a parent's consent. A controversial late-term procedure that opponents call "partial-birth abortion" is barred.

Brinkman's bill would make performing an abortion or transporting a woman across state lines to have an abortion a felony.

2. "Transporting a woman across state lines to have an abortion"?

The wording tells me all I need to know about the kind of fundie assholes who support legislation of this type. They don't seem to realize that women can drive. If I'm sitting in a car driven by a woman who's going to have an abortion, am I transporting her? How about if she drives to the clinic and I drive her back?

The idiocy of these people is pervasive, like a fog. It affects every single faculty they possess.
