Leopold Needs To Reveal His Source

Didn't Truthout promise to do that if their story was wrong? Revealing the source is the only way for Leopold and Truthout to redeem themselves. There's no obligation to keep a source secret if that source was deliberately supplying false information.

4. There's a difference being being wrong and being false

If Leopold has reason to believe he was deliberately lied to, absolutely he should out his sources. But I get the feeling that either his sources were set up, too, or that after the leak was made, Rove made Fitz an offer he couldn't refuse in exchange for not charging him. I don't think Fitz is coming out of this empty-handed.

It appears Rove was very concerned he would be indicted. He does appear extremely happy and relieved. He was told last night there would be no indictment on his was to a speaking engagement.

Already this a.m. the trashing of the dems have swelled. Actually it started last night when Rove told his adoring crowd that Kerry & Murtha were so wrong about everything and especially Zarqawi death. He said if they were in power we wouldn't have gotten him. Yeah, right - wrong, he wasn't important enough for bush when he had a chance to get him before or during Shock & Awe. Were you wrong then bush or now? When, bush, did you start lying to the people of the U.S.?

There's a difference between the sources' being mistaken at the time, the sources' lying at the time, and the sources' information being rendered false.

If mistaken, they could have been set up, or they could have been simply wrong for a few reasons--they believed rumors, they misconstrued things or misremembered. Disambiguation's tough; if they were set up, there's a story, but good luck finding evidence for it. Many DUers have trouble believing people can just be wrong without being liars.

If lying at the time, they could have been doing it on orders to protect Rove by discrediting a truth-telling, to embarrass the whackjob Leopold entirely on their own, or doing it to inflate their own importance as knowledgeable, trusted confidants of all things worth knowing. Again, sorting out which is the case might not be possible; if the first possibility is true, there's a story, but not much of one.

If their story was rendered false, it could be that Rove turned, or that additional information came along to make the indictment no longer proper. Even if Fitzgerald gets an indictment, if exculpatory evidence comes along--or at least sufficient evidence to make conviction highly unlikely--he's under a virtual obligation to ignore the indictment. If the former, there's a story. If the later, it's a story nobody wants to hear.

Just a few possibilities, among, no doubt, many others. In any event, far too many 'ifs' and not enough known facts.
