I noticed that before her interview with Matt Lauer, her book was hovering at around #30 on Amazon's book list. It certainly wasn't catching the interest of that many buyers.
Before hand, the only publicity she was relying on was the 6/6/06 release date and that didn't seem to be helping. But after Matt's question about the 9/11 widows, BOOM! She was everywhere. And her book jumped to #1 and stayed there. You think that this particular question was padded into the interview just to give her book that extra controversial boost it wasn't getting previously?

at Borders less than a week after its release date. The Lizard Queen's sad, pathetic, attention-starved antics might have done her more harm than good this time.

When I e-mailed Today about her appearance I made exactly that point. She has the right to say what she wants but Lauer gave her the set-up to get the most repsonse. He is as guilty of slamming the widows as her by asking that question. Why didn't he ask Miss Christian if she has any plans to get married and is she currently celibate. She shows up wearing a skanky little black dress (her arms showed her age) to a morning show, then pushes a book calling me, 'godless'. Give me a break.

about her statement. Did you not see Lauer's face? He was appalled by Coulter. But here we are, bitching, griping, and building her up. The media pick up on our tastes... and if they can attract our attentions - negative or positive - to their network with this, they will. But who chooses to watch? NBC didn't strong arm anyone to watch Coulter's interview with Lauer. But we watched, and downloaded it over and over again.

Case-in-point: How many threads, would you say, will appear on DU when Coulter appears on The Tonight Show?

We have a role in this problem. Yes, if we had just shut up, taken Rachel Maddow's advice, and not worry too much over her stupidity, she would not be receiving this much additional press, a la Al Franken and Michael Moore.

Whether or not we like it, we encompass the market. And that is how the media work in a market climate.
