F*** You CBS. You left Dan Rather hanging in the wind....
I hope he comes back and bites you in the ass in his new job. Dan Rather knows what the word journalist means. No wonder he was forced out considering the state of Corporate News today.

1. His statement leads me to believe..
they wouldn't let him cover 'real news' anymore, so he said Adios.

Good for him! and I hope to see him hook up with and independent Real News org. soon.

2. I agree with you here .... I was sickened when I heard his contract wasn't
even up and they were forcing him out. Since they cant control real journalists, they force them out. Makes me sick. I hope he finds a new home ..... I will follow him wherever he goes

3. They had to force him out
He violated the sacret law of journalism. He knowingly created story he could not prove other than a forged document in order to influence a presidential election. Even if the story was 100% right, even if the document exists, the evidence of it was falsified. In journalism, you can't do that. It is a violation of mainstream ethics.

This was also in the aftermath of Jayson Blair scandal, the New York Times reporter that was fired for creating false stories. CBS didn't want their credibility to be damaged the same way the NY Times was after Blair.

5. The document was not proved to be forged.
Edited on Wed Jun-21-06 04:18 AM by cornermouse
That's a republican lie. The allegation was that depending on which expert you wanted to believe, it could not be proved that the document was the real thing. No one, other than the dissenting expert and republican mouthpieces ever claimed it was forged. I don't know that anyone ever looked into the background of the expert who disagreed. Given Bush's history of buying the press and opinions, well...

6. The evidence was falsified? When did that happen? Who verified
the accuracy of the documents? This was proven beyond what a reasonable person would believe?

8. Jerry611 stated the evidence was falsified.
I merely pointed out that after the story came out, an "expert" came out of the woodwork to claim it was false; sort of like the current evolution/creation argument where we now have "scientists and experts" who claim that evolution is a fairy tale. I would like to point out that no one ever looked into the history of the expert. Bush has a habit of buying people. This could easily be another instance of buying someone.

7. oh my gawd you are funny - you are being sarcastic right? Okay, just in
case you arent joking - his story was credible, and he had documentation to back it up. He wasn't allowed to air it .... sometimes I can't tell if people are just yanking my chain on this site

9. And we're supposed to believe that anyone who talks about the "'sacret'
law of journalism" knows anything about journalism?!?

10. That document was never proven to be false.
I refer you to exlrrps series http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=364&topic_id=1448919, I present that those dociments were generated by Killian to CYOA.

11. Are you watching the same news I am?
Reporters fake stories all the time. Let's start with WMD in Iraq and end with the swift boat liars. I don't recall any "journalists" being fired for repeating that BS.

12. I thought that Viacom...
...which owns CBS was the only one of the megamedia conglomerates that wasn't totally evil. Trading Rather (and Scheiffer) for that lightweight birdie Katie Couric makes me think otherwise...

(Viacom also owns Comedy Central - Stewart/Colbert)
