Bush’s visit: Boost or bust?

By Paul Woolverton
Staff writer

State Democratic Party Chairman Jerry Meek, a Fayetteville native, looks forward to the visit, too...
However, Meek said, the president owes the military an explanation.

“I think this is really an opportunity for him to look these soldiers in the eye and address their family members and explain to them why it is that his administration has managed this war so incompetently,” Meek said.

Chuck Fager, a peace activist and director of the Quaker House in Fayetteville, said the president has used the troops in his previous visits as “a backdrop for war propaganda.”

“I wish Bush would stop telling lies about the war and get it over with,” Fager said. “If he really supported these troops in the 82nd and Special Forces here, he would bring them home now and end an immoral and illegal war (in Iraq).”

“Most of what I hear is that people are going to be out of town or that they have some other commitments,” he said. Fager, for example, is scheduled to attend a Quaker conference in Washington state.

1. Something tells me Bush might not get such a warm welcome.
We all know how he hates it when he has to answer questions, and it sounds like they have a couple of good ones to get things of to a big bang!

Here are a few more:

Why were troops put in harm's way when you knew that no WMDs existed, and that Saddam was not an immediate threat?

Why have millions been wasted on no-bid contracts, when it could have been spent on proper armor and equipment?

Why have you not had the respect to attend even ONE soldier's funeral?

Why are you so willing to send others to war when you did everything possible to avoid serving?

How do you feel about Dick Cheney getting five deferments so he didn't have to serve his country?

Those questions should get Bush out of town in no time! Then everyone can have a nice holiday.

2. Self-delusion:
Edited on Fri Jun-30-06 04:47 PM by Hissyspit
“I think it’s a great morale booster,” said Sgt. Cari Schultz, a Chinook helicopter crew chief, while shopping at the Airborne One military supply store on Yadkin Road near the Fort Bragg gate. “It’s always nice to know he cares enough to come around.”

&

But Chief Warrant Officer Luis Aviles, who has served in Iraq and Afghanistan, said he expects to see Bush. What would he say if he gets a chance to speak to the president?

“That he’s doing great things, supporting the global war on terrorism, he’s doing magnificent,” Aviles said. “We haven’t had another attack on our soil ... since he became involved.”

...since he became involved???

The country was attacked during his watch. Guess he doesn't know what Shrub was doing during the attack itself.....

4. It's bizarre, isn't it?
But mostly dangerous and sad.
