SO LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT: BUSH WANTS A PLAN?
I just heard on the radio that Chuck Hagel called for an immediate Cease Fire in the M.E. Bush rebuked him saying he WILL NOT consider a cease fire UNLESS THERE IS A PLAN FOR SUSTAINABLE PEACE. This is coming from the SAME GUY who FAILED TO HAVE A PLAN TO SECURE THE PEACE BEFORE he invaded Iraq.

:wtf:!

Bush AVOIDS the obvious: the ONLY plan that will work to sustain peace is one that is agreed to by ALL PARTIES. But that plan won't be created while each sides children are dying. Until the KILLING STOPS, there can be NO PLAN FOR PEACE.

1. Hagel said: This madness has to end
I have to hand it to him - he got it right.

2. sustainable is a cop out
Peace is a work in progress, something to be worked on every day, Israel is going to have
to rethink it's foreign policy, bomb them into oblivion is not working.

4. It's a stall tactic basically...
Israel says it needs another 2 weeks to take out Hezbollah, so basically there will be at least another 2 weeks of death destruction and "regrettable mistakes" unless something worse happens between now and then.

5. Underneath Bush's bluster is the fear that he will blow this just like...
...he's blown everything else. I can only hope that Rove, Rumsfeld, Cheney, and Rice are sweating bullets over this but I suspect that their monumental hubris prevents that from happening.

7. All George Bush...
has to do is declare "Mission Accomplished" and everything will turn out wonderfully...just like before. That way, all the people of Lebanon and Israel can enjoy their flowers and candy too. Everyone already has a horrible gut feeling about Bush's "plan".

8. He just wants to turn Lebanon
into another Iraq. There will never be peace as long as Bush/Cheney are hellbent on implementing the PNAC plan.

9. The administration position is an example of classic diplomacy
The US position is that Israel should destroy Hizbollah. Our government does not want to stop the IDF but public opinion in the US is generally against the heinous carnage, therefore...

Sec.State SAYS that we want the fighting to stop but not just via a cease fire, we insist on a comprehensive peace so that Israel will be safe from "terrorists" in the future.
Rice and the administration know that such an agreement is impossible but they go around the world talking about it for weeks while the fighting rages and civilians die.

Our Secretary of State is performing her job exactly as she's been instructed.
Talk, express concern, don't allow any progress.
She'll get a medal. In a secret ceremony, maybe.
