7. When in doubt, insult
Yep, that about sums it up. Telling the truth never seems to cross their little minds.

10. Want to see an actual 20 year old flame war? Here it is!
Edited on Tue Aug-22-06 08:46 AM by gatorboy
The OP perked my interest to look up the epic Brahms Gang vs.Tim Maroney flame war of '87. Guess I found one!

I just had to see what a 20 year old flame war looks like. :P

13. Ah, the good old days
When the net was young, before AOL, before Internet Explorer, when cyberspace was small enough that people could really get a reputation as Usenet kooks on multiple newsgroups (whatever happened to Mark Ethan Smith?)- makes me miss the good old days, when we had to write all out posts out by hand with only 1's and 0's, after walking to the computer lab uphill in both directions in the snow at night to fire up the old mainframe and bask in the green glow from the VT-100s....

What's scary is I still recognize about half the posters in that thread.

14. snorf... what about Bob McElwaine's "science" posts?
do you remember the truly horrible "original" scientific theories he'd post about? Long, rambling, semi-paranoid posts, with lots of SHOUTING. Someone MST3Ked some of them -- even did one about matter and energy involving an experiment with a plate of Spam you leave on top of the fridge and check at regular intervals -- OMG it was pee-your-pants funny. I wonder if that's lurking in any of the cobwebbed corners of the 'net.

Gopher holes... Bitnet... think I'll spend the rest of the day on rewind. ;-)
