2004
NILES (Michigan) -- Even before anyone knew President George W. Bush was coming to town, one store owner had created a unique tribute to the man. Visitors to Color Me Christian bookstore at Front and Main streets can see a life-size cardboard cutout of Bush attired in the full "armor of God," wearing "the helmet of salvation," the "breast plate of righteousness," and "the belt of truth" while carrying "the shield of faith" and "the sword of the spirit." "I want the president to know that we're praying for him," owner Dana Hankins said. "I believe he wears the armor of God. He's a Christian, godly man."

13. Delusional people often look that way.
Befuddled brain reflected in the eyes

She really should consider keeping the
armor for herself though- she's going to need
it when she ends up in hell for worshipping
Satan over God.
Tsk, tsk...who is going to protect the
silly white trash of this world from themselves?

141. "Their beliefs are bonkers...." by the Guardian
Their beliefs are bonkers, but they are at the heart of power
US Christian fundamentalists are driving Bush's Middle East policy

George Monbiot
Tuesday April 20, 2004
The Guardian

http://www.guardian.co.uk/comment/story/0,3604,1195568,00.html

The article contains one erroneous point:

""In the United States, several million people have succumbed to an extraordinary delusion. In the 19th century, two immigrant preachers cobbled together a series of unrelated passages from the Bible to create what appears to be a consistent narrative: Jesus will return to Earth when certain preconditions have been met. The first of these was the establishment of a state of Israel. The next involves Israel's occupation of the rest of its "biblical lands" (most of the Middle East), and the rebuilding of the Third Temple on the site now occupied by the Dome of the Rock and al-Aqsa mosques. The legions of the antichrist will then be deployed against Israel, and their war will lead to a final showdown in the valley of Armageddon. The Jews will either burn or convert to Christianity, and the Messiah will return to Earth. ""

Actually the dispensationalist view of end-times, also called 'futurism', was invented in the Counter-Reformation by the Jesuits, not simply a couple of 'immigrant preachers' as Monbiot mentions, see Francisco Ribera's role in this from:

The Catholic Origins of Futurism and Preterism
www.aloha.net/~mikesch/antichrist.htm

The Third Temple stuff is very much a part of the Bush foreign policy game plan, and a reason why the Muslim world automatically reacts negatively to the US; the 'greater Israel' policies are mentioned consistently, and erroneously applied Biblically since Abraham's progeny includes the sons of Ishmail too,

Greater Israel 'from the Nile to the Euphrates'
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/israel/greater-israel.htm

The misapplication of all of this eschatology is very disturbing.

116. Right on!
And may I add this???

Yahshua shows us that loving our enemies is the heart of the gospel. He said: "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God" (Matt. 5:9). He also said: "Love your enemies, pray for those who persecute you" (Matt. 5:44). Yahshua commands us to not concentrate on the splinter in our adversary's eye, but instead on the beam in our own. When standing in the Lord, Christians have a responsibility to count the cost, speak out for the victims, and explore every alternative. He came into a violent world preaching, rejecting the military option and armed only with the Word, and whose witness in the face of violence actually breaks the back of violence.

The True Church, unlike the self-professing apostate church running America today, possess "weapons" that hold a power the world cannot fathom. The first Christians knew that this Word of Truth spoken in the name of Yahshua might well cost them their lives. But they were unwilling to consider safety the key issue. What do we trust more to protect us and make this world safe? Our bombs or the Word of Yahweh? There is no evidence at all that violence, even "just" violence, makes us safer. But there IS evidence that it ONLY keeps us captive to the long history of violence that is ours in this world.

Yahshua said: “Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:5), “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God” (5:9), “You have heard that it was said by them of old time: You shall not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment. But I say unto you, that whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment” (5:21-22). “You have heard that it had been said: You shall love your neighbor, and hate your enemy. But I say unto you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you” (Matthew 5:43-44), and he commanded his disciples saying: “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves” (10:16).

Violence must not be considered because it reflects everything contrary to love. Those who consider the other as a “thing to destroy” resent the image of Yahweh in him. He who wants to eliminate another from being resembles a murderer even if he does not actually kill: “Whosoever hates his brother is a murderer” (1 Jn 3:15). Our early Christian brethren imitated the meekness of Yahshua as He had commanded them: “learn from me; for I am meek and lowly in heart” (Matthew 11:29). They did not revolt against their oppressors but achieved the greatest spiritual revolution by offering martyrdom without hatred or grievance. Yahshua commands us to act meekly even with those who offend us because the goal is to save the offender. If we answer violence with violence, how can we save them from the evil that enslaves?

Violence begets neverending violence.... “for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword” (Matthew 26:52). We are to face violence with meekness so we may give love a chance to enter hearts by offering a living testimony for true, unconditional love which encompasses every person despite his faults. Triumphant love is unshaken by the attacks of violence. This love alone, because it is from Yahweh, is able to lift the heart of the person who is chained with hate by breaking his bonds from the world of violence to the world of Yahweh. That love ALONE is greater than hatred. Paul wrote: “Be not overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good” (Rom 12:21).

SCRIPTURE THAT!!!!!!!!!!!

Fuhrer Bush and his flock need to get a grip and wake up already. However, it has been written that they will love the lie.

ridiculous than he normally does, if possible.

I think they should call the head gear the "collander of salvation" -- I guess when you are out fighting for the Lord and you get hungry, you've got something to rinse your pasta with.

"The belt of truth"?? Isn't that what shrubby calls a shot of vodka?

"Sword of the spirit(s)" -- that one is obvious.

23. There was a time when we felt COMPASSION for the mentally ill...
That time was BRIEF, and apparently it is past.
nowadays we just look at them for our own amusement
on the internets.

Back in the 1800s, wealthy folk used to buy TICKETS
to go to mental asylums.
They invited friends, and they took picnic baskets
to 'make a day of it'.

The only 2 real differences between those people
and US:

1: WE have the internets; they had to actually TRAVEL
in order to POINT and GIGGLE at persons who are mentally ill.

2: They were HONEST.
They freely admitted that they enjoyed laughing at the HORRORS
suffered by those who were "less fortunate".

So my "fellow DUers"...
what are you gonna do when you stop laughing at this woman?

However will you fill that VOID?
Gonna go out looking for crippled puppies,
so you can giggle about how they "walk funny"?

41. Well, maybe it's just me.
Do you REALLY not pity people like her?

Do you honestly NOT feel the urge to HELP them?

I am not being sarcastic, I really want to know!

You see, I view folks like the lady in your OP
as DAMAGED.
Well-meaning, lovable, probably not so bright,
and horribly, terribly DAMAGED, through no fault of their own.

Looking at her is like looking at a puppy who was hit by a car.

And when I see a puppy who was hit by a car,
I see only 2 options:
1: Get it the help it needs to be HEALTHY again
2: Put it out of its misery

The one option that NEVER occurs to me:
Call everyone I know, saying:
"Hey! This puppy was just hit by a car...You gotta come over and see this shit!"

Did that explain it better?

and that you want to help her. Then stand back because she's going to hit you with a world view so twisted and hateful that it will send chills up your spine. She is the American Taliban. She knows in her heart that she's going to a very white and safe heaven and that YOU are going to hell because you don't believe the same as she does.

She is not to be pitied. She and her kind are the biggest threat to our nation today. Al Qaeda can attack us with planes. Her kind are trying to attack our basic liberties from within amd with this administration pandering to them they are starting to succeed.

49. That is when the "putting her out of her misery" option is used.
You are missing the POINT I was making.

You can HEAL the puppy,
or you can END ITS SUFFERING.

But in either case, yelling "Hey, Y'all, come look at this shit"
is completely sick and wrong.

If the puppy is beyond help,
you hold it close, and pet it while you press the muzzle
of that pistol up under its ear,,,
and you whisper "good boy" while you squeeze the trigger.

And you sure as hell DO NOT take PLEASURE from it!

I have really explained this concept as best I can,
this is "all I have to say about that".

If you don't 'get it', then rest assured that I shall one day MOURN for you.

Rabid animals fool people all the time, until it's too late. They wag their little tails and look just like the little doggie in the window, but inside they are a far different critter than the image they project. Reach out your hand to pet the stray pooch and it can be your very last mistake. Is the bone the puppy is looking for really your leg bone?

Do you remember how harmless Bush looked to America in 2000, but now we all see the madness that the country overlooked before, or do we?

140. Naw, don't coddle the fundies. They sure as hell won't coddle you.
And making fun of them isn't quite as bad as "putting them out of their misery" with a pistol. Geezus Please-us! I can't believe what I just read up-thread, Jed! dicksteele, did I read you right? You're pissed that people are making fun of this lady, yet you think it's better to put her out of her misery with a pistol as long as no pleasure is derived from it? Is that what you said??? Yes, I realize you were talking about a dog, but it seemed more like a straightforward comparison rather than a metaphor. If I'm reading you incorrectly, please tell me because if I'm not, you scare me, dude.

If you make fun of fundies long enough, some might just catch on. Some catch on better if you're kind and patient. Because I've already gone through it myself, I lack the kindness and patience, but there are some people (like my old college professors) who had the knack of questioning my crazy beliefs without offending me too badly. Some weren't as patient, but there were a few who must have had sleepless nights because of me. I was a very good student, got straight A's, graduated valedictorian, but I held onto fundy beliefs to an extent until after I had graduated. My professors were all liberal Christians. Had they been atheists, I probably wouldn't have listened to them at all. (This just came as an epiphany, so maybe I am glad I stuck it out at that college.) Now I am an atheist, but more than anything, I seek truth.

Yes, fundies can become non-fundies, but I'm sure some are beyond hope. As much as they piss me off, "putting them out of their misery" is not an option. Yeah, that's a great way to heal this nation. :eyes:

They don't want to look at anything that might contradict their world view. I have trouble feeling pity for the willfully ignorant. It was folks like them who are responsible for a great many of history's great atrocities.

At the same time, I still care about my mother and people who are like her, but I remember the tale about the frog and the scorpion. You can't trust a scorpion because of what it is. These people are dangerous. They don't think they are ill and they don't want to get better. Only a very few of them will change their ways and don't ask me who or why because I haven't figured out what makes the difference. They claim to be religious, yet they don't worship a god - they worship a man who has not done one good thing for humanity in his entire life.

I can't feel compassion for people who choose to be blind. I can't feel compassion for people who want to force me to live life under their control. I can't feel compassion for people who have taken over my country and destroyed it.

Were all those "good little Germans" mentally ill, too? Or was it just easier for them to not ask any questions and simply comply when they were told what to think and how to behave?

When you're told that the grass is blue and the sky is green and you believe it, even though your own eyes tell you something different, that's not mental illness - that's willful ignorance and it doesn't deserve compassion. JMHO

Bush has had an unbroken string of failures, ruining everything he has touched. He is now in the process of disassembling our democracy and substituting a theocratic monarchy. And this moronic, bubble-bound ignoramus proclaims him a good, "godly" man.

Everything one-dimensional, and it won't stop anything with any force to it.

p.s. if the woman is posing proudly for her local newspaper, unless she was misled about the photographer's employer, I think it's fair game to point and giggle! I don't think it's the same thing as going into a medical treatment facility to laugh at the patients, as someone suggested earlier. She made the decision to put up the display -- if she were an employee coerced into posing with the cutout, I would feel sorry and wonder if it happened under duress. But not when she is the store owner.

103. A Collective Psychosis
From:
The Madness of George W. Bush: A Reflection of Our Collective Psychosis
Bush’s sickness is our own.
by Paul Levy

A COLLECTIVE PSYCHOSIS

It is a very dangerous situation we are in--because of the position of power Bush and the religious right find themselves in, they can literally dream up and create the very apocalypse that they are imagining is prophesized, like a self-fulfilling prophecy. In a perversely self-reinforcing feedback-loop, the more death and destruction happens, the more this confirms to them the truth that their deluded end-time scenario is actually happening as prophesized. In a diabolical self-validating vicious cycle, Bush and the religious right are ignoring the role they are playing in creating exactly what they are using as evidence to prove the rightness of their viewpoint. ME disease is a world where up is down, as its flawless illogic is convoluted and inverted at its core.

Malignant egophrenia is crazy-making. It induces a very hard-to-recognize form of insanity. When we fall prey to egophrenia, we are unable to recognize that we are taken over, as we become bewitched by our own projections, accusing other people of doing what we ourselves are doing. For example, Bush is talking about himself when he accuses Saddam Hussein of being “a man who has defied the world,” and “a man who has made the United Nations look foolish.” Part of the disease is that when we point at it and call it by its true name--as being a form of insanity called ignorance--people who are stricken with the disease will see us as the ones who are crazy. Unless we recognize the insidious nature of this disease, there is a crazy-making field around it that will make us a part of itself. Collective psychosis is like that.

It is profoundly important that the mental health community at large recognize this age-old disease with which we are all afflicted. Doing this changes this community from being part of the problem to part of the solution. The disease literally feeds on our unawareness of it. The recognition of the disease is itself the beginning of the cure. By recognizing the nature of this collective psychosis, we snap out of being part of it. Malignant egophrenia, unrecognized and misdiagnosed until now, has wreaked havoc all throughout human history, and is at the very root of our current world crisis. To the extent we are unaware of the nature of this collective psychosis, it has us in its grips and will unconsciously get acted out through us in a destructive manner. The choice is truly ours.

One of the signatures of ME disease is that it hooks people through their unconscious blind-spot, so when people are afflicted by this deadly disease they are truly asleep to what is getting acted out through them. Bush himself is being manipulated, used and victimized, like a puppet on a string, by a deeper matrix of cover-up and deceit that has been perpetrated by him and his very regime, and has now taken on an autonomous life of its own. This disease, if it gets out of control, means self-destruction for both victim and perpetrator. There are no winners. The entire interconnected web that supports Bush can be recognized to be tentacles of this virulent, non-local pathogen that, to the extent that it is not seen, is potentially gaining more and more sovereignty. Like a sci-fi movie, we have dreamed up a higher-dimensional Frankenstein monster that has taken on a life of its own and truly threatens all of us.

Dana Hankins, posing in her Niles bookstore Color Me Christian, says it was worse anticipating her high natural gas bill than actually receiving it.

My grandmother on my mom's side said he was her favorite while my other grandmother said Eisenhower. All of Bush's lying is how my grandmother on my dad's side stopped supporting him. She used to but now she doesn't buy his faith either. Heh heh.

I am pretty sure that is not a sentence. The inability to speak in proper sentences is another thing she has in common with Bush.

Looks like Ms. Hankins should brush up on the second commandment. Oh, but "He's a Christian, godly man."
Sorry, but was there ever **anything** alive that was more antithetical to Christ than * ?????
