12. Abramoff's lobbying efforts and bribery seem to be
a distinction without a difference. Believe his guilty plea
was for perjury and income tax evasion.

6. No,
I was just looking through some info n(WAPO article) and I saw where plenty of Dems had taken $ in the form of "tribal donations." And I was just wanting the 411 from DU...

That's all. :hi:

Glad to know btw....

7. "Tribal donations" do not come from Abramoff.
They were his clients, also known as his victims. The tribes that worked with him even switched from financing mostly Democrats to mostly Republicans.

It's a Republican scandal. Grab your popcorn and put your feet up. They can't get out of this one.

13. Begala On MTP Made This Distinction And Matalin Even After ....
the clarification by Begala made the connection again. Nobody challenged her the second time. So - if it is said enough times withhout challenge or clarification - it becomes fact. Dems get implicated by some silly association. It is interesting that Matalin was trying to make the point that the Dems were trying to implicate * by association. So again - it's ok if she and the Repugs do this - but they criticize the Dems. It's really getting frustrating.

9. Perhaps you might want to edit your post to reflect that.

Tribes have long contributed to political races, just as do individuals, Unions, businesses, and interest groups.

Tribal contribution to Dems from Abramoff clients were reduced after they became his clients. Tribal contributions to Republicans increased after they became Abramoff clients.

Plenty of Dems have taken contributions from me. So what? They didn't promise me anything for my donation, I just prefer most Dems to most Republicans. So did these tribes in question, until Abramhof promised them specific action for their donations and was able to deliver based on his ties to the Republican dominated congress and the White House.

16. How DARE you question! DU has RESOLVED this issue!
If, however, you want something slightly different than kneejerk solidarity, there ARE issues that may present the appearance of wrongdoing by Dems to some...

Again, I'm only alleging the APPEARANCE of wrongdoing, but you can see why some people have an issue with the "NO Democrats took ANYTHING from Abramoff" statement.

10. Also, keep in mind that Abramoff was NOT
convicted for his lobbying efforts... he was convicted of bribery.

There is a difference under current laws.

15. No, but if people hear it often enough from the media, people
believe it.
