FOX NEWS: Florida Congressman Mark Foley Resigns Over E-Mails
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,216699,00.html

SO - according to the major news outlets - he only resigned because of an email. This isn't a sex-scandal, its an electronic scandal.

Why the kid gloves? This is bullshit.

9. Oh...This Was A Set Up
That's already streaming across the corporate media via hate radio. That somehow Foley was set up this close to the election as a "political ploy". Now, what about the political ploy of covering up the investigation and knowledge of Foley's activities for 11 months? How about how he was able to keep his chairmanships and leadership roles despite Hastert and others knowing this guy was going after young boys.

In many ways, I feel sorry for Foley. I used to see him spout the DeLay line of the day on the House floor, but he was one of the few "civil" kool-aid drinkers. Now, with his dirty secret out in the open, he must have lived in his own hell...fighting his own sexual urges vs. his political (and financial) ambitions. He played with two devils and one finally got him.

BTW...this isn't the first GOOP email pedophile scandal this year. Just recently, a former boooosh official in Tampa was convicted on his soliciting of young boys. Since he was a low toadie, the story never made much of a splash, but something screwy is going on in the Repugnican party...and it couldn't have happened at a better time.

The deal is the corporate media can't put the wraps on this one...who can soft-peddle not only pedophilia, but this happening on OUR DIME on the floor of the House of Representatives.

The one thing to watch here is how the sex angle is played. The corporate media can't stay away from a good sex scandal, and if there are reports of actual encounters, other contacts Foley made or other Repugnicans in similar problem, how they can stay away from something that is such a juicy ratings grabber. The only thing they wish was this scandal has a Kennedy name attached to it.

11. set up??? LOL!
So whomever set him up found a 16 year old confederate to ply foley with his charms?

Silly me! Personal responsibility only enters into it when it's a democrat!

12. I'd Laugh With Ya But...
I've seen this meme on wingnut hate boards and on hate radio. I figger this must be the first of those steps of denial...ya know...deny, outrage, embarassment, recognition. Now I doubt the Repugnicans can get beyond step two...but that's fine with me...and I hope that happens before the election rather than afterwards.

It was "set up" cause this was just tooclose to an election. That's the only justification. Of course, this comes from the party famous for their October surprises. Seems they're not liking being on the receiving end.

Cheers...

10. When I saw "e-mail", I read "sex scandal"
I suspect most people did.

Technically, the headline is true, and it is damning.

I think we've trained ourselves to lose hope in every instance. This is great for us, and very bad for them.

13. There's at least one excellent example here of a really bad headline.
"Congressman's notes to teen spawn probe"?

1. "Spawn" is not a good word to use in any headline. As both a verb and a noun, it creates confusion. This could be read as meaning "Congressman writes notes to a group of people who are probing into teenage spawn."

2. "Probe" was...welll...just a bad word to use in ANY headline related to this story.
