Hatch Admits Recommending BOTH Clinton SCOTUS Picks
Orrin Hatch just told of how he gave Bill Clinton BOTH Breyer and Ginsburg to Clinton as good SC picks. Hatch's little anecdote was supposed to somehow underscore that "Democrats do it, too!" In regard to choosing SC nominees in a unilateral rather than a bipartisan fashion because, Clinton did not ask "70 Republicans", so therefore Republicans are justified in choosing extreme right-wingers for SCOTUS.

Does anyone else see the inherent contradiction (other than the morally bankrupt tit-for-tat justification attempt) in Hatch's statement? Yes, a right-wing Republican personally selected the Democratic President's SC choices. How in the hell do the Republicans use THAT to justify not including the Democrats in the process this time around? There's something seriously wrong with Hatch's and the Republicans' cognitive functions.

This was on C-Span a few minutes ago.

1. Breyer and Ginsburg are no "liberals" whatever that means anymore.
One would wonder if Hatch demanded, er recommended these two justices, how beholden they might be to Ms. Hatch.

2. Damn Clinton, talk about caivning in!
These politicians concede so much ground, trying to work inside the system and end up giving away averything they ever tried to claim they stood for or stood on.

Is there such a thing as a politician taking a firm stand? I'd love to hear about one.

5. geez hit the dems at all cost. we stand on higher ground
we can actually argue not putting in an extremist. we lose all that argument and argument to even protesting alito if clinton hadnt done this. you would have nothing to stand on in this moment if clinton HADNT done this and had put in someone extreme left.

dont you see your own contradiction in what you say. isnt it obvious, even to you. cause we are talking about hatch's obvious contradiction, as you throw one out yourself

10. I can see your point
sometimes it just feels so hard to not just give up!

I don't mean to be defeatist but I look back at all the potential there was to make real and effective change during those Clinton year, and feel like he accommodated the rich and vested all the time, he never really took the hard stands he promised for the people.

Then I look at the road ahead and wonder where and when we'll find leaders with integrity who will stand their ground and be able to work effectively for change. The way forward won't be made easier by taking the path of least resistance, At the same time, discerning when to stand up, when to walk out, when to sit down and engage in dialogue is essential.

In essence, how does one work on creating a brighter future when you're sitting in a snake pit, and the ladder up might save you, but leave everyone else down there to be eaten by the snakes?

6. Yep
I will never forget that Clinton signed NAFTA and the Media Consolidation act.I think he woke up in the end and was good at some foreign affairs.
I think Jimmy Carter was the best president we have had in the Demo. Party. He saw the rising tide of oil dependency and started funding alternate energy. the oil companies and 500 destroyed him and have been successful in putting in people who look after their interest ever since.

3. Federalist Society
Orrin Hatch is a member of the Federalist society and well as many BusH appointees. I suspect so was Alito.Wish Kennedy would ask him that. The other woman behind Alito( not his wife) was a Justice attorney and a counsel to Alito. She was also a member of the federalist Society. Wish I could get a list of their 25,000 members.
