Foley had a "private dinner" with this page, now elected official
From a C-SPAN transcript, posted at Americablog here - http://americablog.blogspot.com/2006/10/gop-rep-john-shimkus-r-il-let-foley.html

FOLEY: John was the highest bidder on lunch with Mark Foley. Maybe you all do not know this story, but John had paid considerable sums to dine with me. I had offered to take the winning bidder to lunch in the Members' dining room. Then I heard how much John Eunice paid. And I said, ``John, there is no way in the world after you committed so much money to have lunch with me that I would dare take you downstairs to eat in the Members' dining room.'' I said, ``Where do you want to go?'' He says, without reservation, ``Morton's.'' I said, ``Morton's? Like in Morton's Steakhouse?'' He said, ``Oh, would that be too much?'' I said, ``Oh, no, we'll go.'' I said, ``Call your mother, get permission, make sure she notifies the Clerk and we will go to Morton's.'' And so we proceeded to cruise down in my BMW to Morton's.

Well, John Eunice is now an elected official himself.

City Councilman John Eunice, At Large

Mr. Eunice is the youngest member of the Valdosta City Council and also the youngest in Valdosta's history. Mr. Eunice was elected to the City Council at the age of 18. He is originally from Gainesville, Florida, but has lived all over the world due to his father's military service. Mr. Eunice is a student at Valdosta State University where he is currently majoring in Business Management. He is a graduate of Valdosta High School. Prior to his election to the City Council, Mr. Eunice worked in Washington, D.C. for a year through the office of then Congressman Saxby Chambliss. He has also served the Governor's Office of Highway Safety as a member of their Advisory Committee. Mr. Eunice has also worked for the Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce, Smith-Barney Investments, and Moody Air Force Base as a civilian contractor. His current term will end in 2007.

Bolding is mine. I posted this here because he IS a public figure in his own right, over 18, and his name was clearly stated in the C-SPAN transcript.

It now begs the question, just what did Chambliss know and when did HE know it?

BTW, don't forget that Chambliss said that the south could have won the civil war if they had had better intelligence. He said, "We need better intelligence. If we had better intelligence in the Civil War we’d be quoting Jefferson Davis, not Lincoln." and also said "If Gen. JEB Stuart had had better intelligence, we’d all be meeting in Richmond right now."

GOP Senator says with better intelligence South would have won US Civil War.

6. He must be older than 18 now
His term is up in 2007. I would imagine that they have at least 3 year terms. He was elected when he was 18.

5. Why, it's Dagwood Bumstead in the flesh!
Edited on Sun Oct-01-06 11:13 PM by IntravenousDemilo
All he needs is a cowlick and that big circular thing on his shirtfront. What is that thing on Dagwood's shirt, anyway?

Also, I have an aunt Eunice, but that's her first name. "Eunice" is kind of a bizarre surname, yes?

BTW, I would maintain that "if they had had better intelligence" can also mean "if they hadn't been so godawful fucking stupid", no matter what Chambliss may have intended it to mean.

None of that is in the transcript. :)

18. Wow, look at the size of that bow tie!
If a good, strong Southern wind blows up--that kid is airborne!

On another note--what worries me is that Foley probably took it the wrong
way, when the teen paid a lot to have lunch with him. Yikes. Foley
probably assumed this was a date.

20. And as for the bow tie...put a feather in his cap and call him macaroni.
I swear to God, his look epitomizes the concept of a callow "dandy". The shallow twit.

And I apologize to all honorable dandies.

21. Where's the Beanie?
I just KNOW he has a beanie with a whirly-gig on top.

Seriously though, WHY would Mr. Eunice pay money to go to dinner with Foley, after having been warned of his interest in adolescent boys?
