1. It's Always Time to Keep Our Powder Dry
The powder must be kept pristine and virginal, untouched by discord or use in combat.

(Ahhhh.... Golden triangle... so shiny...)

3. Have to keep blasting their absurd rationalizations for inaction. . .

Asking questions can be more effective than saying "do this" or "do that."

Ask to speak to the appropriate legislative assistant and ask some questions. Questions like:
  • I'm shocked that the Senator/Rep choose to become an "Accessory After the Fact" War Criminal by voting for the War Criminal's Protection Act? Why did you do it?

  • How can it be "good politics" to become an accessory to crime? Haven't Democratic members of Congress learned their lesson -- the entire Party is still paying the price for enabling Congress to give Bush a blank check in the Authorization to Use Force.

  • Why do you think the nation perceives the Democratic Party as weak and unprincipled? Do you really think it has anything to do with your stance on national security? Haven't you wondered if every time you fail to stand up for principle you are just confirming the "weak Democrat" perception?

  • Do you really expect the American people will trust you to stand up to terrorists if you refuse to stand up for Bush? If you refuse to stand up for the Constitution?

  • Do you realize how morally-confused the Senator/Rep sound when you condemn Bush for nullifying the Constitution in one breath, and then with the next tell the American people "Hey, but don't worry, we have no intention of doing anything about it. We have no intention of impeaching anyone!)

They are heading home. You can blast them at close range.

Constitution be damned! Can't worry about that or pedophilia! Quiet! Must vote with repukes! Can't be soft! SSSSShhhhhh quiet! Maybe after the elections, we can say something! SSSSssshhh!;)

I'm sure that's how some "advisors" are talking to certain "red state" dems.

5. Tragically true. . . But what really keeps them silent is not the stories
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 12:13 PM by pat_k
. . .about the mythical backlash beast spun by so-called "strategists." What keeps them silent is the fear of being outrasized within the insular beltway social scene -- a scene that is dominated by Republicans and their propaganda. (Just consider how years in the last couple decades Repubs have been doing the hiring and appointing; just consider how much more ruthless Republicans are when it comes to "cleaning house" and bringing in loyalists at every level. DC is a Republican town.)

As humans often do, they invoke all sorts of rationalization to justify inaction, not even realizing themselves what the real reason is.

These folks really are just people, vulnerable to the same social pressures we all are. The best shot we have at injecting reality is to exert "counter pressure" -- to shame them for what the folks out here see as cowardice. To ask questions. (We are mystified. You repeatedly fail to stand up in cases that the folks out here see as moral imperatives. Help us understand what you are thinking.)

We need to show up in person armed with cluesticks (a couple meeting request examples in http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=2283415&mesg_id=2283872">this post)

They are heading home. We can blast them in person!
