I told you so. However, even I am shocked at how much momentum this has gained over the weekend.

To those who are screaming distraction re: Woodward's book. In some ways it is helping Woodward out by shining a light on the fact that, yes, republicans will lie to their sheep. Some of the local sheep are about ready to run off a cliff they're so lost at this discovery.

Oh, and that alcoholic excuse, not holding water. Too many people are one, or have one in the family, and they don't buy that he stalked young people due to his alcohol addiction. As a matter of fact I've seen a couple of people get indignant over that premise so far today.

I've been suggesting they just stay home on the 7th and not support the corruption as a show of their displeasure. ;)

1. Sure gets a lot more attention than the habeas corpus/torture outrage

of a day or two before, doesn't it. I hope to hell it keeps the *-bots at home, but I have my doubts.

5. It's dirty laundry.

The press loves that, don't they? Who cares if they rip the constitution apart at the seams. They want dirty laundry to air! Yeah, that sucks, I agree. Howevert, I don't know how to change it.

I don't buy that they set Foley up to use as a distraction, however. They're taking a very hard hit from this story and they weren't given a tiny spanking over the habeas corpus/torture story. This is the US of A, home of the inane after all.

That the revelation of Foley's predatory behavior was deliberately timed to distract people from the torture bill? We should live in such a well-informed society.

Of the twenty adults in my immediate department, only one of them knows anything about the Republican Torture Bill, and he's a Democrat. And only three people (including that Democrat and myself) even knew what habeas corpus is (or should I say was?).

I, of course, expect it to disappear within a week/week-and-a-half - but then again, I've finally gone from cynical to downright bitter and resentful.

9. It's hard not to be cynical at this point

You're a little bit ahead of me--I'm still at the "cynical and bitter" stage and haven't yet progressed to "bitter and resentful," but there are times when the distinction is academic.

The main thing that makes me doubt that this was a deliberate release is the inherenit unpredictability of public outrage to this sort of thing.

I mean, here's a paraphrase of recent public reactions:
Killing civilians? Hell, they were Iraqis, and this is war after all.

Torturing without trial? Hell, they were probably terrorists, and this is war after all.

Untold billions wasted by Haliburton et al? Hell, this is war after all, and waste is part of war.

But a public figure involved in a sex scandal? Outrageous! We have to take immediate steps to make sure that this kind of abomination isn't repeated!

Not that Foley shouldn't face the consequences, but so many horrors have occurred on the GOP's watch that it's frankly sad that it takes an indiscrete sex predator to really shake up the house of cards.

3. Think somebody needs to send KKKarl a memo and tell him the

strategy of a Friday news dump is so 2000. Once upon a time you could "take out the trash" on a Friday and it would disappear down the rabbit hole of who gives a damn.

Now, though,it is much harder to hide the BS. The "internet tubes" and us "pajamahadeens" don't let the story die a quiet death over the weekend. We get info instantly, assimilate it, report it, forward, scream, yell and demand coverage. The MSM is now constantly struggling to keep up with US. The repugs are going to have to drop back and come up with another way to shut down bad news - dumping late on a Friday isn't working anymore.
