What is it? Referring to Condi and Tenet "forgetting" to testify about a pre- 9-11 meeting mentioned in Woodward's book.

9. DOJ Investigation
Only if the Bush-led United States Attorney for the District of Columbia wants to disobey his boss's orders.

Inspires faith in our public institutions, doesn't it?

14. Is it possible an 'independent prosecuter' (like a Fitzgerald)
might be assigned to investigate?

(I know, I know.. and I believe in the tooth fairy and Peter Pan)

And the three-judge panel are all Bush appointees.

Sorry, Mate, it's more likely that the moon is made of green cheese.

6. Oh brother,
any false testimony or willful omission before a federal congressionally related body, even not under oath is bad news.

False Statements Act just for starters.

7. Absolutely! TheFederal Crime is "Lying under oath to aFed. official."
Is it a crime tofail to inform your questioner about something they failed to ask about? I don't know. I keep hearing that Condi & George didn't tell the 911 Comm. about any meeting, but I suspect, if they weren't asked, they couldn't have lied.

10. Nothing as long as the republicans hold all the cards
Otherwise I think there is something about lying to congress. Even for bush and cheney - although it was so secret who really knows what would happen with those two because it would be the republicans word against the democrats word.

12. For political types, not for normal criminals, there is the
somehow highly plausible "I forgot."

These oafs accept this garbage from each other all the time.
"It isn't a lie if the subject didn't know or didn't remember."

There is no way in hell a burglar would be allowed to fly on "I Forgot!"

13. nah, there's only a penalty for semi-lying under oath for
a forty million dollar BJ. Lying for war, protecting immoral, corrupt friends, or incompetency that caused US harm, is a- okay!!!! :sarcasm:

16. You do not need to be under oath if you lie in a Congressional Hearing...
or and government hearing in fact:
18 USC 1001:
(a) Except as otherwise provided in this section, whoever, in any matter within the jurisdiction of the executive, legislative, or judicial branch of the Government of the United States, knowingly and willfully—
(1) falsifies, conceals, or covers up by any trick, scheme, or device a material fact;
(2) makes any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or representation; or
(3) makes or uses any false writing or document knowing the same to contain any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or entry;
shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 5 years or, if the offense involves international or domestic terrorism (as defined in section 2331), imprisoned not more than 8 years, or both.
(b) Subsection (a) does not apply to a party to a judicial proceeding, or that party’s counsel, for statements, representations, writings or documents submitted by such party or counsel to a judge or magistrate in that proceeding.
(c) With respect to any matter within the jurisdiction of the legislative branch, subsection (a) shall apply only to—
(1) administrative matters, including a claim for payment, a matter related to the procurement of property or services, personnel or employment practices, or support services, or a document required by law, rule, or regulation to be submitted to the Congress or any office or officer within the legislative branch; or
(2) any investigation or review, conducted pursuant to the authority of any committee, subcommittee, commission or office of the Congress, consistent with applicable rules of the House or Senate.

17. If you do lie under oath, the punishment is the same. Just a different
section of USC.

and told them the Dems should call for her resignation immediately - if this report of the July meeting is true - I am so sick of these people I could vomit blood - and I told them how dare the repunks say they can keep us safer when they were warned time and time and time again before 9/11 and did NOTHING....

20. Well, that depends...
...on whether yours is a theoretical or a practical question. Because you see, theoretically there are laws that cover this. But whether one expects the law to be applied, that is the question. My bet is, no.

"In theory, theory and practice are the same; in practice, they are not."
