Edited on Mon Oct-02-06 02:14 PM by leftyladyfrommo
and now he is happy that the FBI has been called in.

Vile - it was just vile.

So now do we wait until the FBI does its thing to find out how long ago the GOP knew about all of this?

I just can't believe how fast this cover-up got managed.

Let me revise this - no one had read the text messages. That is a big difference.

1. Hastert seems to be confident the cover-up will stick. Otherwise he
wouldn't be going with such a modified limited hangout......

I think he has seriously miscalculated - once again. People aren't going to accept the lack of action last year that left pages vulnerable - particularly if Foley actually seduced one or more since the suggestive emails were first reported. Hastert knew there were some improper emails sent. Even if he didn't know the actual content of the emails he should have followed up on the reports - or made sure someone else die. If it turns out that actual sexual contact occured between Foley and a page, Hastert, Reynolds, and probably several others will have to give up their leadership posts, if not their seats in congress. And if they are actually charged with a crime, all bets are off.

2. Now that HAstert has come out and said all of this,
the media won't have to do anything except run vid of him saying it, case closed, move along, no need to look at sitting GOP leadership. After all, he wouldn't lie, would he? :sarcasm:

3. All of Foley's pals knew this stuff - they always do.
So to say that no one knew anything about the specifics of the e-mails is just ludicrous.

4. Well, given how fast the cockroaches, Hastert et al, skittered away
from the media without answering questions, it seems to me this has not been "managed" at all, quite the opposite.

If they felt they were succeeding on "managing" this, they would have been ready with prepared answers for the media instead of skittering away.

5. Hmmm, I seem to remember someone else using that word "vile"...
...ah, yes, here it is:

http://www.sptimes.com/Worldandnation/91298/Congress_sees_through.html

As reported on September 12, 1998:

Mark Foley made these remarks concerning President Clinton: "It's vile," said Rep. Mark Foley, R-West Palm Beach. "It's more sad than anything else, to see someone with such potential throw it all down the drain because of a sexual addiction."
