Listening to Alito hearing - all ReThug Senators making quick
each to sound byte "highest ABA rating, serious judge, 15 years experience" type short speeches.

Dems are droning on and on explaining why they are voting No, beating it to death to make sure no one thinks it's a partisan vote. HO hum

Everything they are saying is true and should be heard, but they really have no clue how to frame the message. Had they each simply stated "after looking at his rulings over the past 15 years, and the way he evaded answering questions that are of the highest importance to the majority of Americans, I will have to vote no" then shut up - they would have gathered interest in what they need to say so the message would get out there.

1. IMO, this should be their message.
I'm so sick of the "Dems don't have a clear message" bullshit line they keep throwing out in the media. I say we've got a VERY CLEAR MESSAGE!!! That message is...

This is what the Democrats stand for.

1. Rule of Law
2. U.S. Constitution
3. Bill of Rights

Period. We stand for everything that this country was founded on. We stand for preserving ALL OF THE ABOVE. That's a simple and concise message, right? Let's start hammering it home!!!!

That's right you rat bastard Repukes! We stand for everything that you are trying to DESTROY!

Peace.

11. True - they could all just say "the Judge will say anything to get a job
we have no way to tell, based on his answers -if he was being honest when he said something then or if he's being honest with his corrected answer now

2. Always remember
They are United States Senators. They don't know HOW to make a cogent remark with few words.

5. GOP does it. Their remarks are false and dangerous to democracy
but short and clear.

12. Yes, as I said on another thread--
the time for political niceties is over. Fair, but firm and unflinching--keep repeating the same thing over and over and over until they run out in frustration or pull out their guns. Then we've got 'em where we want 'em. SG :hurts:

14. At least we'll have called their bluff

and forced Joe Schmo to see their true colors--even if we have to suffer casualties in the process. SG

3. Most of them got it.. Alito is against civil rights
in his cases 84% of the time he voted against civil rights and in favor of government, big corporation... That is the main point right there....

4. On the other hand...
I was just thinking to myself while watching the hearing that the Democratic senators are so much more impressive than the prissy-pants Republicans. It's just too obvious who the good guys are.

6. All of the Repub bastids, to a man,
spent most of their alloted time distorting the Dems position and decrying the the tone of the "process". IMHO, the Dems gave calm & reasoned arguments for their decisions--not sound bite material. SG

7. Don't waste your time - here is my recap of the hearings:
Dem: His record clearly shows his words do not match his deeds

Rep: I think he seems like a stand up guy.

Dem: He works to erode privacy rights

Rep: This one judge I spoke to likes him fine.

Dem: His decisions show a complete disregard for workers/woman's rights

Rep: This one black judge likes him.

Dem: His record reflects a pre-disposition to allow for unchecked presidential power.

Rep: You guys are mean to him and his poor wife. Give the President his way.

Alito confirmed.

10. There's no reason to dumb down their statements
It's possible to state clearly why they oppose Alito in the way you described, but that doesn;t mean they should limit their remarks to that.

They may not be the most exciting speakers, but their "droning" is indredibly important to explain what that means. Otherwise it just becomes an exchange of meaningless platitudes.
