However, after a year or so, I realized that you are just considerably more conservative than I am. But, in all fairness, I am on the other side of the spectrum.

to determine their loyalties. :evilgrin:

If they're new, it's only a matter of time before they "out" themselves. However, I'm usually leery of someone with a couple of dozen posts who writes something controversial. Anyone who has any experience with message boards - political or otherwise - knows that you make every effort to stay above the fray until you're "established" because you don't want to be accused of being a troll.

Unless you have a web site or a blog that can "prove" your intentions to people immediately, I don't really think there's any way to get out from under the cloud of suspicion. If you know someone on the board who can vouch for you, that would certainly help. Otherwise, just keep posting and eventually, people will see you for who you really are.

If you're a bit more conservative than many of us, I don't have a problem with that. Unless your views are waaaay out to the right, I don't see why anyone would have a problem with it.

Anyway, I think it's against the rules to accuse someone of being a Freeper. If we have a problem with a post, we're just supposed to alert the mods. If you're being accused, you should also alert the mods. Let them take care of it. :-)

On edit: I see in another post that you don't want to report. I can understand that. If the same person(s) keeps accusing you, put them on ignore. If it's more than one person ... fuck 'em! Seriously, don't let the idiots get to you. :hi:

There will always be people who try to manipulate the debate with accusations like that. I hit alert on them and go about with my business. People on DU seldom matter in the grand scheme of things. The political people I know in real life know I'm real; people on DU rarely get involved in real-life politics anyways.

If it were to happen, I think I would seriously examine the thread that would cause the comment. If I did indeed say something stupid, I would apologize for it. If I felt I had not said something stupid and felt that the person making the comment was just in the heat of the moment, I would simply ignore the comment.

Bottom line though, I don't think a person could prove such a thing on an internet forum. The truth would come out by a persons comments over time.

If you have a problem with somebody calling you names, do what everybody else does and hit the alert button. The moderators will decide whether the posts you alert violate our rules or not.

By the way, if you've really decided that you're not going to use the alert button because you're not a "rat" then any potential rule violations against you are not going to get dealt with. So my suggestion would be to start using the alert button and stop posting threads to complain about rule violations.
