Couric's little note of spite.
http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2006/10/04/couricandco/entry2060478.shtml

Personally, I was struck by how many of the people who posted began their comments with one word: “Shame.” As in “Shame on you, Katie Couric.” (I might mention here that the majority of people wagging their fingers and using that word would proudly label themselves free-thinking, tolerant, progressive, maybe even liberal. Tolerance, it seems, has its limits.) I was also struck by how the tide seems to have turned. Over the last 24 hours, a growing number of e-mails and comments have been in support of Brian Rohrbough and his views. A friend of mine who runs a conservative blog says that’s not surprising. She told me that most people who agree with Rohrbough would not be inclined to watch CBS, and when they heard through the blogosphere grapevine that “freeSpeech” was causing a kerfuffle, and that abortion and evolution and Christianity were being mentioned, they wandered over to take a look.

Now it’s hitting the papers. Media maven Howard Kurtz (who, I swear, should be played by Ray Romano in the movie version of his life) has written about the controversy in this morning’s Washington Post.

As far as I'm concerned her show stinks. Not because she's female which appears to be what she thinks. Her show stinks because real actual solid news is skimpy, experts on the subjects that actually are aired are non-existant, and it mostly consists of... well... human interest stories.

19. I guess I was suggesting that she is going after Oprah's audience.
I don't really know very much about Oprah, except that she is pretty and generous.

7. This is the stupidest argument I have heard since this one:
Edited on Wed Oct-04-06 08:28 PM by nam78_two
"The GOP didn't reveal the Foley scandal because they might be accused of 'gay-bashing'"
:eyes:

Its the RW's little straw man that the progressive left only cares about someone's race, sex etc and not about whether they are actually good at the job they do. What a spin on tolerance!
People on the left feel that all people, irrespective of race, sex, sexual orientation or economic class, should have the same shot at the doing the work they are good at/interested in. And in a significantly unequal society like the one we live in affirmative action is needed to ensure that this happens.

I have never heard a single true progressive say that someone should not be criticized for being bad at their job or corrupt simply because of their sex/race etc.
This is the same kind of argument they use when calling lefties "racist" for saying Condi is horrible at what she does....(explaining the obvious for lurking freepers).

Couric is not a serious news anchor...I have never heard her ask a hard-hitting question and her show is all about "human-interest" fluff garbage...
:eyes:

Edit: ok I misuderstood the initial post -I thought they said we are "intolerant" because we don't think Katie is the awesomest host ever and that she is being picked on cause she is female or whatever....

10. Katie was a good friend when she was with WRC-TV in DC.
So was the then relatively-unknown Wolf Blitzer of CNN. We sat together .. Katie, Wolf, Mac .. almost every day in the Pentagon press room during Gulf War-1. Many of those briefings were done by SECDEF Cheney.
I flew weekend trips for my airline, and covered the war during the week for an aviation news magazine (of which, I was editor at the time). Those were heady days.

Check six.

She doesn't seem like the same person anymore. Her swing to the right has been rapid and disconcerting.

18. No contact in years .. but yes, total change. Katie and Wolfie.
They relied on me for some or their networks' air-war analysis. I often fed questions to them, because I had a hard time getting recognized by Cheney, and because Katie and Wolfie did not understand what was going on in that war.

20. Yep.
The thing is that the audience she appears to be trying to go after already watch Fox.

I miss the old CBS. I miss watching the news on MSM.

14. my letter to KKKatie after reading that dreadful tripe:
Edited on Wed Oct-04-06 08:50 PM by musette_sf
I just read Ms. Couric's comments regarding the initial comments of viewers regarding the diatribe spewed by Brian Rohrbough on a recent CBS Evening News broadcast. I also noted her comments regarding the ignorant, intolerant non-viewing sheep whose "pastor" encouraged them to contact CBS, who agree with Mr. Rohrbough's assertions that the separation of church and state provided for in the US Constitution, the teaching of sound scientific theory in schools, and a woman's Constitutional right to control her reproductive health and have unfettered access to reproductive choice, are somehow the reasons for the dreadful school shootings of recent years, weeks and days.

I do not discount Mr. Rohrbough's pain and loss of his child. No parent should have to bury their child. But I do take issue with his regressive, repressive, anti-woman, and un-American views being broadcast on a national news program. This amounts to an endorsement by CBS of these anti-American and anti-educational values. The vast majority of Americans believe in the Constitutional separation of church and state, and also believe in a woman's right to make her own choices on her reproductive health privately with her doctor. Evolution is a proven scientific theory, and it should be noted here that politicians are leaving the Republican party (9 members in Kansas alone) for the Democrats, largely due to the anti-science fringe nutters who have taken over the Big Tent. The vast majority of Americans do not share the views of Mr. Rohrbough, and CBS's role in presenting and endorsing those views cannot be ignored.

The Rohrbough interview was a cheap shot, and using Mr. Rohrbough's grief and loss for your ratings was disgusting. The result - his un-American views presented with CBS's imprimatur - was even more disgusting.

Shame, shame, shame on you, Ms. Couric. Sorry to say, but like Harriet Myers, you just should have told the CBS brass that you were not qualified for the job. You are unfit to sit in the same chair as Walter Cronkite and Dan Rather. The saddest part of this is, that you undoubtedly know that this is true. Or you're so high on your own PR that you just don't care. It was unconscionable for the CBS News to present such anti-American, anti-science drivel and broadcast it into our living rooms with your approval. And it's even more unconscionable for you to write such a self-serving column, inferring that progressives who oppose this garbage being presented as "news" are intolerant, and that anti-American and anti-science nutters from a religious cult (who admittedly don't even watch your program) deserve your, and CBS's, support.

15. Ignore her
She's in last place and the pressure is getting to her. I don't think the direction they chose was the correct one for the way America is trending, but it wasn't my choice to make. Since they did make chose the direction, and I assume she knew the "new look" that CBS evening news was going to have, I don't' feel sorry for her.

I'm female, progressive and held hope she was going to become a hard hitting anchor person. Instead she leans toward fluff and appears to have taken a wrong turn along the way and lost her audience. I know she lost me. I don't know if she thought women wanted to hear more fluff and that's why she went the way she did, or if she was actually setting out to insult our intelligence. Either way, we all lost, Couric, me and my daughter, not to mention every thinking woman across this country. I'm sorry for her, but I'm sorry for myself as a woman too. She could have been a contender, instead she's a last place, butt kissing, shame on us all.

22. Katie Couric is a vacuous airhead
Never watched morning shows, never liked her regardless, I think she is a phoney. I hope she fails like a lead balloon, her approach to the evening news is not going to cut it.

She should stick to the morning fluff.
