Bible-Spouting Group Plans To Picket Amish Funerals

(CNSNews.com) - A Kansas-based group that says "God hates fags" plans to picket the funerals of the Amish girls killed by a disturbed man in Lancaster County, Pa.

The Westboro Baptist Church -- described as a hate group by the Anti-Defamation League -- has made a name for itself by picketing the funerals of U.S. troops killed in Iraq. The troops are dying as punishment for America's tolerance of homosexuality, the group says.

The Westboro group says the Amish school girls were "killed by a madman in punishment for Gov. Ed Rendell's blasphemous sins against Westboro Baptist Church.

"Gov. Ed Rendell -- speaking and acting in his official capacity to bind the State of Pennsylvania -- slandered and mocked and ridiculed and condemned Westboro Baptist Church on national Fox TV," the group says on its website.

There is some scary information about the good reverend. Most of Phelps' "followers" are close family and various cling-ons. Phelps also has several children that have completely disowned him and tell stories of abuse--mental and physical. Twisted and deeply homophobic. Not to mention terribly tacky.

15. How are they going to find the locations of the funerals? The Amish don't

have church buildings so the funerals will be conducted in homes. It is unlikely that the address of the homes will be public information. So many Amish have the same last name that finding, say, the "Miller" house in Bart Township will be next to impossible. I suppose they could try to follow the buggies but I still think it will not be so easy. I am sure the PA State Police can come up with some "innovative" ways of stopping the Phelps crowd, like diverting auto traffic away from roads near the the funerals to insure the safety of the large number of buggies on the narrow coutry roads.

17. If Phelps and his gang of bigots show up in PA, they'll be arrested

The Pennsylvania Legislature passed, and Governor Ed Rendell signed, a law this this past June (PA Senate Bill 1150), banning the demonstration and protesting by groups within 500 feet of a memorial or funeral service.

This law was directly spurred by Phelps' predilection of showing up at military funerals with his "church", chanting and holding up signs such as, "God Hates Fags" and "God Hates America".

If Fred Phelps and his cohorts want to increase their chances of spending a few nights in a Pennsylvania jail, so be it.
