U.S. budgets for 'commemoration of success'

October 5, 2006
BY ANNE PLUMMER FLAHERTY
WASHINGTON -- The military's top generals have warned Iraq is on the cusp of a civil war and that U.S. troops must remain in large numbers until at least next spring.

But if the winds suddenly blow a different direction, Congress is ready to celebrate with a $20 million victory party.

Lawmakers included language in this year's defense spending bill, approved last week, allowing them to spend the money.

snip-

''If the Bush administration is planning victory celebrations, Americans deserve to know what their plan is to get us to a victory in Iraq,'' said Rebecca Kirszner, spokeswoman for Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).

1. If they put that $20 million in an interest bearing account.........
by the time the Iraq war is over we should be able to pay off the national debt with it! The foresight of these Republicans is amazing! :sarcasm:

4. If they're having a "victory" party, they should share the definition
of what constitutes "victory" in Iraq ... oh, I forgot ... if we explain how "victory in Iraq" can be achieved, then the "terrorists" will just sit back and wait ...
