2. Just got back from a rally in the local area.

I don't expect it to make an impact on the bushes or the corporate media. I expect it to make an impact on others in my community. If it makes just one person think twice then I have done something. I can say when my grandchildren ask how did this happen that I didn't stand idly by. This is my third protest. I'll keep going until I can no longer walk.

17. I have done something today

if just one person driving by saw our signs, the beautiful people holding the signs, and could identify with us on some level and perhaps change or enhance a like attitude.

Just being out there with our messages, interacting with people, can make subtle changes in consciousness.

Durham, NC protest:

We had about 12 people. Had a very good reception from the passersby.

Only had two freeper-type encounter: one rolled his window down and yelled, "Bush rocks you fucking faggots!", the other just gave us the finger. We retorted with smiles and waved our signs at them.

I was the only Du'er, all the others were from Durham Impeachment Forum; a meetup group.

I took a small double faced sign with 'Bush=Failure' on one side, and 'Feel Safe Yet?' on the other. The meetup folks gave me this enormous 'GOP, Greedy Old Pedophiles' to hold as well.

A guy from Common Cause stopped to take pics.

but wanted to add that we noticed a guy about 100 feet behind us, just standing and watching. We were convinced it was LE just taking a peek at the Bush-haters.

Turns out the guy's a naturalized citizen from India and is in high tech at RTP. He said he wanted to join in, but was afraid because the Patriotic Act makes him feel like he has a target on his back when it comes to dissent in the 'Fatherland'. Before I left he was standing with us holding a small sign.

I felt anger and sorrow while talking with this very nice man because of the fear he felt about the consequences of exercising his right to free speech. He went on to say that he had many friends and coworkers, all naturalized from ME countries, who are terrified of speaking out against the BFEE in even as small a gathering as this one. Some think could easily be labeled enemy combatant and no one would ever see them again.

It makes me angry that here are new citizens of the US who just happen to have dark skin, dark hair and look like they hail from a part of the world that we, the US, are making a mess of, and they are in fear of the government of their new country!

18. Just got back from a rally in Arvada, CO. The FBI was there...

It was awesome. There were several hundred people there, lots of honks of support from the passing traffic, only a couple right wing hecklers. The first sign I was wielding said "I WANT MY LIBERTY BACK!" We protested on the street, also sang some songs, did the candlelight vigil thing.

Then, we discovered a couple of special guests. On the roof of the Costco across the street were two gentlemen, taking pictures... One of the protest organizers got on her cell phone, called the Costco, told them there were a couple people on their roof, and the person who answered said "I'm not supposed to tell you, but those are FBI agents." Nice...

I went back to my car, grabbed a magic marker and on the back of my sign, drew a new sign saying "Hi Feds!!! Busted Foley yet?" then went back and posed for photographs... The entire group heckled the feds on the roof for a bit. I hollered to them "HEY BIG BROTHER!!! GO BUST SOME PEDOPHILES!!!" "EVER HEAR OF FREEDOM OF ASSEMBLY?"

Now you know how I became a person of interest...
