Dems didn't know. Repukes would have guarded this secret with their very lives from the Dems... the results of what is happening now is what they always feared. Remember, they were solely focused on finding something - ANYTHING - legitimate to bring down Clinton (which is why Clinton was stupid beyond belief to be diddling Monica... he knew they were after his hide). If it was first known by anyone while they were on the Clenis story (their shining moment that they'll never let anyone forget), they HAD to keep a very tight lid on it... what's the ONE thing that would have gotten Clinton off the hook completely AND focused on the Repukes? Obviously, a Repuke scandal infinitely worse than the shabby one they were busy harping on. After the impeachment was said and done what were they going to do? Still have to keep a lid on it, or the gains they made with the Clinton impeachment would have gone flying out the window, AND they would have been at a high risk for being found out they covered it up during the Clinton impeachment for politically purposes while leaving the pervert free to continue stalking pages... eeeeee gad! Infinitely worse... suicide actually. They could NEVER let a Dem find out about it... NEVER, EVER.

The more years go by, the more their dingle-dangles are caught in the wringer. All they can do is try to contain it. Warn the Repuke pages. Give Foley a talking to. But Foley KNOWS they have to protect him, and it only makes him gleefully bolder. His behavior was RAMPANT. Often this is how predators finally do get caught... they get so bold they think nothing can stop them. Like all perverts, he thinks he's got the kids terrified into keeping the secret. It's just as much of a dirty little secret as incest is... even the people that find it horrible and disgusting are trapped into keeping the secret because of the scandal. And just like most perverts, deep down inside they know what they're doing is reprehensible, so they delude themselves into believing that their victims actually want it to stave off guilt.

The pages didn't come forward and tell anyone for reasons that really should be obvious... the same reason MOST sexually abused woman and children don't. Fear, shame, scandal, loss of their entire career that had barely begun, self-denial... all those things. How could they prove it? Would they even be believed? Foley was a CONGRESSMAN for God's sake! Most sexually harassed victims who are preyed on by their teeny little middle management bosses in their teeny little back of beyond offices don't even feel they can tell anyone, and this was a U.S. CONGRESSMAN! They're trapped. Remember, it had only been very recently that with the Clarence Thomas hearings that anyone even NOTICED sexual harassment... and look how that worked out for him!
