My local peace group is starting weekly "Waterboard Challenges"
Just got this in my email:

Waterboard Challenge

Sounds like a lively game at the beach, doesn't it? But it's not as easy and
enjoyable as it sounds. The toughest CIA operative could only do it for 14
seconds.

Is it torture? Find out for yourself at the Waterboard Challenge every
Saturday from noon to 1 at the Courtenay court house park, across from
Thrifty Foods or try it out at the peace demo on October 28 at CFB Comox, top
of Ryan Road in Comox.

Apparently it's going to look a little something like this:

Hey, gang, why don't we all start our own local challenges?

1. Sounds unnecessarily dangerous.

A person can drown from having to much water poured into his lungs.

That's assuming that they're really doing waterboarding on a volunteer and not just calling it that.

3. You'd have to have release forms and a medic on hand.
NGU.

2. I've wondered for a while if anyone was going to do this
People might be a bit less keen on the idea of waterboarding if they actually see it in action.

4. A "Current TV" reporter was waterboarded for a segment...
...on torture.

6. I think its a bad idea.

If you show that even amateurs can do it without killing someone and that the boardee only experiences the perception of drowning, then you might persuade people that its harmless in the long term -- that its just a mind f*ck. But perhaps it can be framed properly.

anyway, thats my 2 cents.

7. Good point. A prisoner is among enemies who...
...may not care greatly if he survives.

A volunteer in a display like this knows he's surrounded by people who want him to live and hope he isn't even hurt much.

We don't want this to seem like a fun and exciting endurance test.

8. Well, if the best CIA time was 14 seconds...
...I don't imagine a lot of people will find it fun.

Hopefully I can make it to the challenge, and report back later.

9. I meant that the spectators may see it as an exciting
endurance test.
