1. She mentioned it at the end of her show today
Isn't that a hoot?

She's probably on because of her book. She doesn't do a lot of commercial TV, although she has shown up on CNN (IIRC) from time to time, remarkably enough.

2. She comes on MSNBC on Hardball sometimes
She mostly is not on corporate television, though, for obvious reasons.

3. I think it *was* MSNBC, not CNN, where I've heard she was on before
I don't actually watch that much commercial TV, especially cable news, for obvious reasons. :)

7. I've never seen Amy Goodman on "Countdown" or
...other MSNBC shows, only on "Hardball with Chris Matthews."

Amy Goodman: Guest Alert!
October 5th, 2006
Howdy Nation! Looks like Stephen just can’t get enough of these guests, which is why he’s having yet another one tonight– Democracy Now’s Amy Goodman! I’m particularly excited about Amy Goodman because she may or may not be related to one of my favorite actors of all-time, John Goodman! John Goodman was in King Ralph, which is a pretty funny movie about this guy Ralph, and I related a lot to Ralph’s struggles. John Goodman was also in Arachnophobia; let’s just say I totally am as scared of spiders as he is! And John Goodman’s pretty scared of spiders! Here are fun facts about Amy Goodman:

Amy Goodman wrote a book called “The Exception to the Rulers: Exposing Oily Politicians, War Profiteers, and the Media That Love Them.”: Another guest with another book with another 16-word title! How’s that for deja vu! And how’s that for an increased probability of Stephen nailing her for being a Byron Dorgan copycat!

Amy Goodman graduated from Harvard University in 1984. Let’s just hope she doesn’t think Stephen’s going to give her a free pass tonight just because her college library has the largest holdings of any college library in the country!

Amy Goodman once said the responsibility of a journalist is “going to where the silence is.” For me, that would mean writing a lot of articles inside the crawl space of my mom’s walk-in closet! I can’t hear a thing!

Things aren’t looking so good for Amy Goodman if you ask me–especially now that I know for sure she’s not related to John Goodman! They’re not even cousins! I’m hoping Stephen goes after the John Goodman thing really hard, which is why I’m going to give Amy Goodman an expected nail factor of 7– but I’m not trying to be mean I swear! Amy Goodman gets it all right– 288 on the Get-It-O-Meter– but some nights, getting it is not enough. Just ask Ken Jennings! Or any other guest I’ve vastly overrated prior to their appearance on the show!

AMY GOODMAN
GET-IT-O-METER: 288
EXPECTED NAIL FACTOR: 7

Got Fascism Yet?

Her show is very humorless, but the sorts of injustices she covers don't exactly lend themselves well to jokes. I don't watch news for laughs anyway.

Edit: Her keynote speech they play on FSTV every so often has some pretty funny stuff concerning Sally Jesse Raphael.

19. glad you asked...
i worked at a 'co-op' bakery she and her boyfriend ran in Bar Harbor, Maine back in the early 80's. As the 'managers' of the 'co-op' they lived for free in the very large apartment above the bakery in addition to having their food paid for. So they didn't suffer with the rest of us those weeks they'd claim there wasn't enough money to pay us (they did the bookkeeping). Actually I have a strong dislike and disrespect for Amy Goodman the person, while at the same time I appreciate and respect her journalism. Funny how that works.

As you wrote, "funny how that works". But it's relative to something entirely different.

20. Not exactly so.
She used to co-host the morning drive time show on WBAI (Pacifica) in New York. I was very entertaining. Her banter with Bernard White was very amusing.
