Ripping off the Tribes. A long & continuing American tradition.

Having watched the Bill Moyers special about abramhoff and delay and all the republican mother fuckers in our government, I was struck by the blatant and insulting way they treated the tribes, lied to them, cheated them, and stole from them, just like in the old west.

Actually the rip off of the original inhabitants has never stopped, its just taken on different angles. I was disgusted by the way the men who ripped them off referred to them in private, as if they were sub human, which is what the European conquerers have always done.

What we see happening in Iraq is the exact same thing that happened in Arizona, New Mexico, etc., all beginning with the 'heroic' christopher columbus, to whom we can thank for this Monday off. He is always hailed as the white man who 'discovered' America, whatever that means. Now the Iraqis are getting a taste of the old manifest destiny that the Navajos and Apaches tasted.

Some things never change.

1. 380 legally binding treaties - every one broken or violated
Edited on Fri Oct-06-06 07:51 AM by SpiralHawk
by the US government. Every single one broken or violated.

Every single one. Still happening today.

Krappy karma to break your sacred legal bond over and over and over like the republicons.

2. The more things change............
..the more they stay the same.

3. the gambling tribes were trying to buy influence but got out-maneuvered
at their own game. they were GREEDY and trying to use cash to get what they wanted. they were doing the same thing Abramoff was doing which was using payoffs to get their own way and jack up their bank accounts. These gambling tribes were too ready to do anything. It is difficult to feel too sympathetic for them in THIS case IMO.
