Anyone remember so much Diebold coverage when Dems were losing elections?
News Headline: "Experts see new Diebold flaw, call it the worst security glitch to date in touch-screen voting machines."

News Headline: "How to steal an election with a Diebold machine."

News Headline: "You can open Diebold voting machines with a common mini-bar key."

Something doesn't seem right here.

1. I thought that had more to do with the indefatigable workers
at Bradblog, the Princeton guys etc.

They have been kicking up a fuss about this for a while....Hopefully its just reaching critical momentum now...
Whatever the reason, elimination of voter fraud is good...

2. Oh. Shit.
This is why it's SO important to have open and transparent and verified elections -- not only can illegitimate people claim to win, but doubt can be thrown on legitimate wins, as well. Democracy gets thrown under the bus, and only the loudest voice will ever "win."

3. I agree with your feeling
If the Republicans lose, they will blame Diebold hacking and try to invalidate the election results. -- Wanet

4. Nope and if Dems sweep the election
I predict every race will end up in court and every Republican talking head will suddenly worry about democracy.

5. It's a possibility but I don't think the GOP can claim fraud
Any claim that they make will lead to the subject of Ohio in 2004, something that they would rather not talk about.

6. This election is going to be a cluster-fuck of monumental proportions.
Winning isn't even the issue for them at this point. Subverting the system is the goal. Instill mass distrust with the entire voting process. Disenfranchisement by attrition. Their hope is to get people so disgusted with the idea of voting that only the hard core will turn out to the polls. And when I say "hard core," I mean their base. If only the nutjob extremists on either side turn out to vote, then they win, because there are far more nutjob extremists over there than there are here.

Make the entire election total chaos, and people will just say "fuck it, why bother?" Why take off half a day of work to vote? Why wait in line in the school gym with a bunch of coughing senior citizens and screaming kids if it's not going to count for anything anyway? When they've whittled the whole process down to this level, they've won, because it is far easier to get freepazoid hate-mongers to the polls than it is to get rational, intelligent people who realize they're being bamboozled.
