2. That's some desperate spin there.
You'd have to be living on "Fantasy Island" to believe that they've "turned the corner" on this.

If it's anything like the "corner" we keep "turning" in Iraq, tho, I'd say the GOP is well fucked.

4. United on what, and a fight with whom?
They'd better hope their show of unity isn't disturbed by more information coming out.

5. Wow. It only took a week.
Amazing. Just amazing.

The fun thing is the story will perpetuate on its own volition. They can spin it as they want but they can't escape that.

6. not to worry. It's that same IraqNam corner they keep turning.
you realize that there are two directions you can take at any corner. Luckily, from experience we can safely state that the Bushistas will approach the corner, signal, promote, and promise, then still make the wrong turn.

7. Except for one thing -
just a couple of days before the election, Foley gets out of rehab. Considering how much he enjoyed putting his slimey puss in front of the camera, he'll be holding a press conference in preparation for a future book release.

9. Probably true
in terms of GOP unity. Yesterday they were stabbing each other in the back. Today, they're all on the same page. That is indeed a corner turned.

How the story itself continues to shake out, and what other revelations may be in the offing, is another matter.

We just saw a rare moment of GOP disorganization. Stuff like this almost never happens; these guys haven't taken the whole government by being prone to clusterfucking around. That disorganization has been solved...for now.

in bringing them all down.

Eh, either way it's quiet.

11. CNN got the same fax. But waiting on Wolfie to break the news.
Fox, of course, doesnt need to receive it. Hannity has a direct line to Rovey-babe.

14. It's true; Repubs have turned the corner...four times.
They are now right back where they started. Expect them to do this again, and again, and again.

15. Yeah--but "united" on what, exactly?
That Denny's a great guy and super speaker?
That they were right in asking Foley to run for re-election once they knew?
That only they can protect the country from "terra-ists"--when they can't even protect 16-year-old pages from on-line sex predators?
That they've done such a great job at passing useful legislation?

Personally, I hope they're united on ALL of those things; because if they are, we're looking at potentially 30-40 new Democratic seats in next year's House!

Impeachment articles, anyone? :eyes:

B-)

21. Just wait till Monday, when the Ethics Subcommittee is supposed to report
Then we'll see what Nancy Pelosi has up her sleeve to keep this coverup story alive, and to get out the Democratic campaign message on other issues.

Pelosi could demand open hearings to untangle Hastard's long series of contradictory statements about what he knew and when!

The beautiful part of this is that Foley's resignation removes him from the jurisdiction of the Ethics Committee. When the Ethics Committee becomes the main vehicle for carrying the story forward, it will be all about the Republican leaders' coverup, and not about Foley.

Drip, drip, drip.
