Just heard on CNN: pugs to call for DEMS' sworn testimony on Foley!
the repellent Kyra Phillips (is that right?) and Andrea Koppel were waxing SO enthusiastic about pug plans to force DEMS to testify under oath WRT the Foley fiasco, and smarming about their great new strategy to stop playing defense on this, and turn the tables on those nasty, conspiratorial dems.

had to be seen to be believed

do they really think this is going to work?

if CNN and the rest of the M$M start pushing this aspect of the story the same way they worked the Swiftboat, I guess anything is possible

sure hope the horse is too far out of the barn, though.

Edited on Fri Oct-06-06 12:25 PM by Stand and Fight
Knock the bloody shit out of the Republicans. They want to fuck around? Then we need to show them that you don't fuck with Democrats. Period.

There is an easy solution to this problem... Simply point out the fact that Mark Foley has admitted to having sent and received these messages. After that Democrats have only to say that the Republicans are smearing them because they have been caught red-handed covering up for a child sex predator. Next point out the fact that Republicans seem to want to have kept the matter hidden from the public, and that we Democrats wish we had known about his actions because we would have put a stop to them YEARS ago. The Republicans seem to want the fiasco of a child sexual predator stalking the halls of Congress to continue...

I guarantee you all that the American people will agree with the Democrats on this. The Republicans really need to just cry mercy. There is no untangling themselves from this.

18. We should use talking points
-Foley is a pedophile.
-Repub congress members like Hastert are pedophile enablers by protecting perverts like Foley.
-Republican pedophiles and enablers are playing the "blame game". Foley wants to blame his whiskey, Hastert wants to blame Democrats, and Repub congress wants to blame Clinton.

Did I mention Republican pedophiles? Republican pedophiles, Republican pedophiles , Republican pedophiles ,Republican pedophiles ,Republican pedophiles .....

Is this greymail or outright blackmail? Yep...they're gonna try to scare any Democrat who had a relationship with Foley into stopping this. Who are they gonna out? Barney Frank?

As I had thought the other day, the game here is to change the focus from pedophile to gay and see if the Repugnican base will rally around some good old gay bashing...and if they can get Democrats to join in, the more the merrier.

15. Clearly the dems should JUMP at the opportunity to get their testimony
ON THE RECORD, then tear the hell out of the pukes for not doing so themselves

unless dems have something to hide on this, they should be deliriously happy about this turn of events

if they do, then any of them who are on the hook deserve to get what the pugs do

that said, is this going to be left up to the media again?

if that's the case, I might begin to worry, cause you know where they stand on this, or any other issue

32. Homophobia...Their Own Trick

Sounds like someone wants to find out whose Foley's boyfriends are or some other trick. Again, the only way the Repugnicans can get out from under this thing is if they can either find a slimier Democrat or get this to become a Beltway gay witch hunt.

What do you expect from a bunch of thugs who've operated like gangsters? They're still scared of more pages coming forward or more Repugnicans being named.

I'm with you, if there's a Democrat whose acting simmilarly, then let's out him/her...except for one small detail. Democrats didn't start this scandal, we have no subpoena power and it's not one of ours stuck in this mess. But I like them dragging it on as the longer they try to stonewall investigations the bigger a hole they dig themselves.

Cheers...

53. I say please do. If there are more pedophiles in Congress, they
should be dealt with- not covered up for political gamesmanship. If I'm not mistaken, that's what their ridiculous "investigation" is supposed to be about anyway, so that threat seems more like an admission of guilt than anything else.

If they're just talking about outing some closeted gay Democrat, well... I thought that was reprehensible, and beside the point. As usual, it's hypocrisy squared.

54. Call It "Gay By Association"
Yep...the right wing hate radio types have been drawing a direct line of pedophile=gay, thus if someone is found out to be gay and were hiding it, thus they must be a pedophile as well...and if they can find a Democrat they can snare in that hypocritical game, you bet they will...especially if its someone who is high profile and one that no one suspected. It won't mean squat to us, but it will become a 24 hour media circus and all that matters for these goons now is who controls the "news cycle".

27. latest turn in the page, as it were:
CNN just ran a quote from the family of the boy who got the emails, not the IMs

they are begging to be left alone

tell that to Julia Hiatt Steele, you poor, ambitious creeps. why did you send your son to Washington in the first place, if you didn't set your sights on this little jugen having a career in the swamp, huh? guess he got his first lesson in what a hellhole that place is a little sooner than he thought

sorry for being cold, but I have little sympathy for them. what are the odds that they're a solid republican family, and that they'd have SCREAMED holy hell if Foley were a dem? wait a minute...according to Fox and AP, he IS!

so it appears that CNN is dripping this out in segments, trying to put the damper on the story, and both things I've seen today were very heavily slanted in favor of the party in power.

were going to be able to continue floating that this story was a cleverly timed outing of Foley, and that the DEMS were the ones who had the emails initially, and held on to them for maximum effect

they were creaming at the prospect of having the pugs once again being able to put the dems on the defensive when it is the pugs who are the ones who have ALL for which to answer

just like everything else that's happened on the pugs' watch, another instance of dems being put on the defensive, with ample M$M assistance is JUST what the doctor ordered for these two little dollie props

56. Are we suddenly in Central Europe?
I never thought I would see this. Our American government has disintegrated to the kind of knee-jerking, ideological circus you see in Europe between Fascists and Communists. The GOP is acting like the Fascist Party of Italy! There are no Communists to battle here - wtf is their problem? Have they just lost their collective minds? Anyone remember right-wingers calling us "commies" and "pinkos" again starting about 2001-2002? I was jaw-dropped reading that stuff...

As a Socialist, I have to say, if the right keeps coming at the left swinging, and pushing us back into the corner, we're going to inch deeper and deeper left, hit flashpoint, and then something really bad is going to happen. Right-wingers like to scoff about how armed and how bad*ss they are, but when the left becomes Radical Left and fights back, things get ugly on a scale they're never prepared for. Gorilla level ugly. Google "Ipatiev House" and see what you find there.

This Republican "demand for sworn testimony" is grotesque, paranoid and like something out of Gli Politti della Fascistas or something. The Democrats have nothing to do with it, and they should say "this is your problem, pederasts" and turn their backs on it.

Also: the Democratic Party should not allow the Republicans to spin this to the media and the public as "a Dems vs. Republicans issue". They're desperate, and that's their keystone strategy. Remove the keystone and wreck this dam of swamp bilge by keeping this issue firmly what it is: the morality of the American people vs. Republican immorality. Period. Remind the media every chance you get.

61. Heck YEAH I'm a terr'rist!
"And see, it's my job... to connect the terror.
It's my job to go out and catapult the propaganda.
It's work. It's hard work.
It's hard work doin' my job.
My job is to do hard work.
Your job is t'... t', um... your job is t'be Americans.
And do the terror."

Thanks very much for the favorite! I'm adding another strip shortly. (So many punchlines coming out of the woodwork, so little time...)

58. I could be mistaken, but ...
Didn't I read a report in LBN that qutoed ABC News as saying their source was a Republican?

Why would they want Democrats under oath?

Ah well. If they want it, they should get it. The Democrats should go under oath as saying 'We did want Foley brought to justice, and we want the same for any other predator in Congress, party regardless.'
