Oklahoma evangelicals with their panties in a wad....
Over the governor's race. The dems have Brad Henry, incumbant, who is extremely popular, and with a booming OK economy (for the time being). Ernest Istook, 4 term Representative to Congress, (I bet you never heard of him, we didn't either, he did nothing), is the repugs boy. But, and its a huge one, he's Mormon. Evangelicals consider Mormonism a cult, (that has been discussed at length here), the apostasy, heretics, and definitely not Christian.

So here's there delimna: Vote for a Mormon or vote for a Democrat! To them its like Sophies choice. I'm relishing in the agony my in-laws, retired baptist preachers, are having. They just can't stand it!!

4. Brad Henry has signed every tax cut presented to him...
So he is pretty well immunized on that count.

7. ahh, but they never really actually vote their pocketbook
that's the odd thing.

Republicans keep promising, and then they keep screwing people over.

You would think that by now, if they didn't see any real change in their pocketbook from Republicans, they would be smart enough to realize they are being lied to...

3. Hmmm. Tough choice, better stay home.
It's kind of like the 1928 presidential election between Al Smith (D-Catholic)and Herbert Hoover. White southerners had to decide who they hated more, blacks or the Pope.

8. From what I've seen the fundies
Edited on Fri Oct-06-06 12:46 PM by Coyote_Bandit
have clearly embraced Istook.

Billy Joe Daugherty pastor of Tulsa mega-church Victory Christian Center hosted David Barton revisionist historian and founder of Wallbuilders one Sunday evening just a few weeks ago. Istook and a few other GOP candidates were in attendance. Before the thing was over there was detailed recognition of Istook's past actions that furthered the Christian agenda - and certainly a strong implicit endorsement.

Daugherty may not speak for all of the fundies but he is very active politically, well connected, and there are several Tulsa area GOP politicians who claim connections and membership to his church.

edit to add: Those Tulsa area GOPers include LaFortune, Williamson and John Sullivan.

9. Of course!!
They have to rally the troops the best they can. Its just fun knowing how hard for the fundies to support a Mormon. It takes their past words and shoves them down their collective gullet...OR...allows them a huge dose of "moral relativism", one of their tag lines for abhorrent behavior, i.e. morals are eternal and absolute.

10. I'll pray for your in-laws (snicker)
Must suck hating so many people. Sooner or later, you'll hate everyone except "me and thee, and sometimes I'm not so sure about thee."
