House Reform Committee Report on Jack Abramoff’s White House Lobbying

Washington, D.C., Sep 29 -

The House Government Reform Committee today released a bipartisan investigative report on the nature and extent of the lobbying of White House officials by Jack Abramoff and his associates. As part of its six month investigation, the Committee obtained more than 14,000 pages of billing records and e-mail communications from Abramoff and his associates at Greenberg Traurig L.L.P. related to instances of lobbying White House officials.

The lobbyist’s former secretary, Susan Ralston, was hired as Karl Rove’s executive assistant. Her role in brokering requests to Rove from her former boss raises questions, not answered in Committee documents or the report, about some of her activities. The report reveals Ralston was the most frequently lobbied person of those named – 69 times. Deputy Associate Director of Intergovernmental Affairs Jennifer Farley was next, with 27 instances.

21. Have to hope that Moyers still has some CLOUT out there from his years
of work calling attention to how America has been DEFILED.

If he got attention to Abramoff and Norquist...it doesn't take much to show Susan Ralston as a "figurehead" in this scandal.

I know there's a DU Photo of her "pawing Bush" ...I hope someone has posted in on the other threads that folks should "HIT" posted on this reply.

27. I Saw The Moyers Show Last Night
It's damning in detail and clarity...and it's been airing across the country all week. If you haven't seen it, I strongly suggest you do...and make some popcorn.

I won't spoil the plot but, of all people, Norm Ornstein may surprise you.

Cheers...

30. Ornstein is no surprise...he's been pals with Al Franken for over 10 years
and is the only honest person I've ever seen to come out of his think tank, AEI, is it, or Heritage.

you mustn't have seen his book about congress, which eviscerates what the pugs have done to it since 1995: Broken Branch

31. He's good but with an "edge" he belongs to AEI..but I like his partner
Thomas Mann...he's kind of Wonky but seems more "Lefty" than Ornstein..but he often is slow where Ornstein is more glip and get's his points across better.

38. Mann is Brookings, isn't he?
I agree....Ornstein is a his best when he's glippest

have you ever heard the audio version of "Why Not Me?"

in which Al Franken wins the presidency, and Ornstein, as his chief of staff, IIRC, goes to jail?

Al then goes bipolar, clones himself, and leaves office after 100 days

something along those lines

Ornstein is on the audio, playing himself

very entertaining audio, and very funny read, as well

great satire on Woodward, as well, in which Woodward covers Franken's 100 Days in Office.

highly recommended

36. He Discussed It
I also saw him on a couple other shows the past week. The problem is I'd need a shower before I could buy a book written by someone from the Heritage Institute..LOL.

I've heard him with Al as well and respect his knowledge...he's from the Milton Friedman school and is kinda like Sullivan who see the light but are being completely ignored. Hopefully with all this crap going down, he'll get a better hearing...he sure got my attention.

Cheers...

41. Are you talking about Mann or Ornstein? I don't get Heritage from either
but then I need to Google to make sure they aren't at Heritage also.

Mann is from Brookings Institute and Ornstein is from American Enterprise Institute...

I'm cooking dinner and will have to do "Google" later to find out if One or Both are Heritage members.

I find "Heritage Foundation" so disgusting..I would agree if either or both or members of that Garbage Dump for the Right Wing Neo-Cons.!!!!

but there's a photo of her posted many times on DU where she looks like she might have had a tryst with with "43" ...she's clutching his jacket.

29. "Just yesterday morning,
they let me know you were gone. Susan, the friends you made put an end to you." Ooops! Wrong song.

DUers will recall that Susan played a curious role in the Plame scandal. On August 2, 2005, she testified about her role to the grand jury. (ABC News)

The following day, newspapers from New York City to Los Angeles took note. Let's look at two:

"At one point, the aides were asked why Mr. Cooper's call to Mr. Rove was not entered in Mr. Rove's office telephone logs. There was no record of the call, the person who has been briefed said, because Mr. Cooper did not call Mr. Rove directly, but was transferred to his office from a White House switchboard. The aides have worked closely with Mr. Rove, screening his calls and coordinating his activities with other White House officials. Mr. Hernandez has been an aide to President Bush since his successful campaign for governor of Texas in 1994, and Ms. Ralston is known as one of Mr. Rove's most trusted associates." (NY Times; 8-3-05)

"But a person familiar with Cooper's tesimony said that Ralston's name did not come up during the reporter's grand jury appearance. That indicates that Fitzgerald may be interested in her testimony for other reasons." (LA Times; 8-3-05)
