‘Dems for Joe Lieberman’ Unveiled- Say What!?
‘Dems for Joe’ Unveiled
Ex-Members, Clinton Vets Back Lieberman

By Nicole Duran
Roll Call Staff

Democratic Congressional leaders may be keeping their distance from Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-Conn.) since he opted to seek re-election as an Independent, but a group of more than 50 former Senators, House Members and Clinton administration officials will proudly announce the creation of “Dems for Joe” today.

A common thread among the geographically and ideologically diverse group is a sense that Lieberman was unfairly being portrayed as a “bad” Democrat. “It just seemed to me, and apparently a lot of the folks who also know Joe, that here is a really good Democrat with a great Democratic voting record and background,” said former Rep. Norman D’Amours (N.H.), who helped get the group off the ground.

Other founding members include former Sens. David Boren (Okla.), Bob Kerrey (Neb.), John Breaux (La.) and Dennis DeConcini (Ariz.); former Reps. Mel Levine (Calif.) and Leon Panetta (Calif.), who served as chief of staff to President Bill Clinton; former Clinton Agriculture Secretary and former Rep. Mike Espy (Miss.); and former Clinton CIA Director James Woolsey. They join a much smaller group of incumbent Democratic Senators who have endorsed Lieberman in the general election. Sens. Tom Carper (Del.), Ken Salazar (Colo), Mark Pryor (Ark.), Mary Landrieu (La.) and Ben Nelson (Neb.) all have decided to stick by Lieberman.

The group is not taking any issue positions, and its support does not translate into an endorsement of Lieberman’s stance on the Iraq War or any other specific issue, organizers and the Lieberman camp stressed.

Say What!? You are what you do. Issues don't matter? We're just supporting you Joe because of your uh, well, you know, whatever.

“I will do anything he wants me to do,” Breaux said. “He’s a decent, honest, hardworking, pragmatic politician who is less interested in following any particular ideology than he is in getting things done.”

Anything!? Do you really mean that? What if...? This could go anywhere but you did say "anything" if I read you right.

1. Heh - no meddling by certain powers that be in the Dem party - not at all.
They wouldn't REALLY mess with an election of a Democratic nominee like that, would they?

2. ANYONE who shows up on that list will NEVER get a vote from me....
EVER. I mean it. This is screwing with democracy at its seminal core. The voters of CT should be allowed to nominate the person they want as their Senator without this bullsh*t.

3. Simple Reply???
...Your judgment is moot-his constituents,Connecticut Democratic voters have made THEIR choice and this is non-revocable....To now support Mr. Lieberman AGAINST the decision of Connecticut Democrats is destructive to the very spirit of democracy-you know and are SUPPORTING a candidate that has been dismissed by the majority. Mr. Lieberman's sense of entitlement may be layed to his inflated sense of self worth. But your support for a man who intends to win by splitting the Democratic vote in half and than picking up more Republican support than the chosen Democratic candidate can is unconscionable. For A Republican to do so is cynical and self-advantageous, for any Democrat to do so is disgusting. Because they gave their names to the endorsement-I'll give mine-Roy Allen, Rochester NH-40 year Connecticut resident and past Lieberman voter....

6. Not sure if you are referring
to me but if there is any doubt let me clear it up by saying I am strongly opposed not only to Lieberman and the entire DLC machine but irate, but not surprised, that these Dems would ignore the wishes of the people, in fact flipping them off I'd say, and get with one of the most right-wing dems ever. Lieberman has always been a reliable shill for the Military-Corporate Complex among other undesirable traits.

8. There are different levels
Barons
Corporations
Foundations and organizations
----------
Businessmen and women who become politicians and judges to further the cause.
Politicians who become businessmen and women to further the cause.
_______________

The faces we know are below the line.

The faces we don't (all) know are above the line. Some straddle the line.
