Woman says she didn't mean to hurl baby
Woman says she didn't mean to hurl baby
Associated Press
ERIE, Pa. - A northwestern Pennsylvania woman accused of using her baby to batter her child's father said she didn't realize what she was doing until it was too late.

Chyrotia Graham, 27, of Erie, told police she had been drinking when an argument with the child's father turned violent early Sunday morning, according to an affidavit filed to support Graham's arrest.

Graham said she "snapped" and began grabbing things and throwing them at Deangelo Troop, 20, not realizing she had picked up her 4-week-old son, Jarron Troop, telling police she held the child by his legs and swung him at his father. Police had said they believed the woman held the baby by the midsection when she hit the man.

Jarron, who was born Sept. 11, suffered a fractured skull and bleeding in the brain after the incident. The infant's head hit Deangelo, who had also fathered one of Graham's other four children.

1. So she was drinking...
Oh, well, then that's okay. As long as it was "accidental". Sheesh! Hope the baby recovers completely and never has to see that sorry excuse for a mother ever again.

18. She didn't cook the baby long enough
Raw meat can make ya hurl. ;-) Baby and Beer don't mix,
and that she only ate the legs, i wonder what that baby was fed,
whether it was kept like a veal cow, or allowed to free range.

19. I'm surprised she hadn't checked into rehab before all this hit the news.
I hear that's the prescribed method for absolving yourself from child abuse charges... :eyes:

2. No excuse. None. Nada.
Lock this POS up for good. With this kind of lack of self-control, she should have given up the kid for adoption.

weapon? If they don't have space in their prison, we will make space in ours.

baby should be raised in.

7. how DRUNK does one have to be NOT to realize that one has grabbed
one's CHILD??? how much does a 4 y/o weigh? at least 35-40 pounds or more?? how could one NOT know?

as the previous poster said, it appears that being drunk now excuses just about everything.

10. 4 weeks old, not 4 years old.
So the baby maybe weighed 9 lbs or so. Still, no excuse for this crap. The chances of that baby actually living probably aren't that great and the chances that the baby will have any sort of a normal life are probably nil.

9. This is why I believe in sterilization for child abusers.
Give the woman a choice between life in prison or some prison and sterilization. Time to turn off the baby machine.

17. Yep. I am absolutely horrified.
Accidentally dropping them was always a concern for me when the kids were very young. I simply cannot fathom hitting a child, let along hurling him at my dh during an argument. :shudder:

29. I'm not EXCUSING the woman or what happened.
However, I've read a lot of "how could this happen?" handwringing in this thread.

This sort of event doesn't happen in a vacuum. I'd like to suggest that any of the following may have contributed something to this awful tragedy:

1) Sleep deprivation. That poor baby was only four weeks old. As those who know will tell you, the amount of a baby's crying increases steadily until six weeks - and then that baby will cry a lot.

2) Alcohol or other drugs. After a picture-perfect natural childbirth, I was prescribed Vicodin "for pain" after I had my baby. I never took it because I knew from experience that taking vic makes me feel edgy and mean.

3) Post-partum depression or psychosis.

None of this excuses what happened. I trust that the judicial system will enact appropriate punishment and protect the remaining children.

35. You posted the original article
When I read the entire article (at the link you provided) it states that there were four other children removed from the home.

What's really scary is that this woman might only be punished, rather than punished and rehabilitated.

33. chances are
that both this man and women came from homes where violence like that was ok. I am not excusing the behavior by any stretch. I think the child should be in foster care or adopted, the parent's charged and some serious intervention, but I have seen this all too often. We see things when they are at Act 3 of the family drama. If we step back twenty years or so, we would most likely see Act 1 and 2 of these people's lives. It doesn't excuse it, but you would understand why they are the way they are. People who were screwed up as children have a much greater chance of continuing that behavior as adults. Very few are those who survive that kind of early childhood.
