How on earth is Lamont down by 10 points?

I realize that many want to point to the big, bad DLC monster, but c'mon.
Why is he down by 10 points?

1. Look at Schlesinger's 5%...where do you think Joe's support is coming from
Edited on Tue Oct-10-06 05:26 PM by MrCoffee
ETA that if Lamont wasn't in it, and it was just Joe v. Schlesinger, there'd be no way the gap would be that large.

2. He's keeping the dems
who voted for him in the primary and since there is virtually nothing for the repuke he is taking it. A lot wil depend on turnout for this one.

3. Because every Republican in CT plans to vote for Krazy Uncle Joe...
and Whineyman is retaining enough Dem loyalists to maintain the lead. Those Dems need to wake up and realize what he's doing to the party.

6. why are people surprised?
Liebermane is getting all republicans, majority of independents, and a large minority of moderate democrats.

That's a formula to win by 10 points.

8. CT likes Joe. From the cite:
"Connecticut likely voters give Lieberman a 51 - 24 percent favorability rating, with 22 percent mixed."

Lamont's being branded as a one-trick pony ("the anti-war candidate") isn't resonating.

7. No one is pointing to the DLC monster
Everyone is pointing to the White House and the RNC.

the democratic party!

10. It's a power play.
Joe is getting support from a very large number of Democratic leaders. He is getting Republican support. Shays says he is a national treasure. Here is the video where he says we should have thought about it before the primary, and there is a list of the power Dems still supporting him.

I am gathering the state party leaders are sticking with Joe more than they should

It is sending a terrible message to the Democratic Party.

Video..you should have thought about that before the primary

Joe and many establishment Dems are thumbing their noses at the party grassroots...daring us to ever do that again.

11. He isn't.
He may be losing, and he may even lose, but 10 points?

Let's remember that Lieberman once had a pollster who recently pleaded guilty to fraud and faking poll data.

12. The party leadership is playing along with Joe on seniority.
Edited on Tue Oct-10-06 05:48 PM by madfloridian
They need to come out and tell him to step down, some have already. Dean has, Kennedy came out today in support of Lamont again, I think others have.

The party leadership is undermining the grassroots by letting Joe have his cake and eat it with the Republicans as well as the Democrats. It's a sad day for our party.

16. So who bears the blame?
If the party leadership is enabling his behavior, who is more culpable?
