Had I not just looked at a thread subject line concerning the Camp Falcon ammo dump, it would have made no sense to me.

Ever since the proud, dignified Native Americans in California used "Indian"--and only "Indian"--to convince voters to support the Indian Gaming Initiative (no sic), I've considered "Indian" to be as neutral as "Native American." If it's good enough for a coalition of tribes, it's good enough for me in contexts in which confusion with S. Asians isn't likely. And a bit shorter, too.
