1. About where are you? I'm near Southern Pines.
Seems there was a report of a NC earthquake yesterday.

4. Good call.
I wouldn't have felt it down here. But when I lived in Alaska, I certainly felt them.

18. Hi Lex!
Not to hijack, but I moved all the way here from Raleigh in May and love it. Durham gets such a bad rap in NC.

6. There was a 2.6 in central NC at about 5 am
That's all that's showing up on the USGS page so far (you would only feel this is you were literally standing at the epicenter):

15. You had to be on the 2nd floor of a 2-story home to feel that.
Edited on Tue Oct-17-06 09:52 PM by TahitiNut
A 2.4 quake? That's not even enough to wake a dog. Were you standing on a ladder on the 2nd floor? The only way I ever felt quakes at 3.0 or below was when I was laying very, very still in bed on the 2nd floor, with the back of my arm against the headboard. Even then it was very slight.

Are you located in the area shown here? ...

passing by the house. Then I felt it. We're not used to stuff like this so I guess we're sensitive.

Yes. I explained upthread. I'm in Winston-Salem. The 2.4 was about 3 miles from our house.

17. You have to be close.
At a depth of 3 miles, a 2.4 will generate a sound - making the surface of the earth a bit like a loudspeaker - and it would often sound like that, but not far from the epicenter. I doubt anyone more than about 6 miles away would hear anything.

Wow. If you ever move to the SF Bay Area, you should get some sleeping pills.
