3. What an unusual video.
I think there are other forms of waterboarding much more extreme. I have seen commentators say that most people crack in just a few seconds, and the best last between one and two minutes. This video really suprised me because because I thought it would be a compelling case against an act for which the United States has prosecuted others as a war crime.

First of all, the premise of the horrors of waterboarding are kind of offset with the guy laughing about it a few minutes after it stopped.

And, having Alan Dershowitz come out and say how he is against torture flies in the face of his controversial and public comments on the matter. I remember watching him on TV defending it, because previous to that he was a big hero of mine.

This video seemed to blur the lines. Is that its purpose?

2. Either this isn't authentic or I now have a much different view of this.
I didn't expect a 24 minute session. The FBI and CIA have been reported to said they were impressed when a terrorist suspect went 30 seconds. This man goes 23 minutes and comes up laughing and cracking jokes about the process?

4. Knowing what is happening...
Edited on Wed Oct-18-06 01:18 AM by FedUpWithIt All
and knowing that it WILL stop at some point is probably a factor. Going into something like this by choice and having it done to you against your will, with an aggressive intent, are two completely different birds. I was sickened by watching this, even knowing that the man was aware of the procedure. I cannot imagine seeing this with a terrified and panicked person being subjected to this by someone who perceives them as an enemy.

I am so sick and ashamed.

7. Not to mention,
Edited on Wed Oct-18-06 01:37 AM by FedUpWithIt All
he knows he will be going home at the end of the day. People who care for him and know where the nearest hospital is are nearby watching out for him. He is not someone who had been shipped off to some secret location where his death, should it occur, would quite possibly never be known. The people who suffer this unwillingly are most likely exhausted, afraid and quite probably have already seen abuse at the hands of those administering the waterboarding.

I agree with you. The process is so horrific because it gives the abused the impression that they will be killed. This video was made of a man who knows he will not be.

5. I watched the first one
If it was supposed to impress on me that this isn't torture, it failed.
