Man Impresses fiancee by shooting her (Why Gun control is a good thing)
Edited on Wed Oct-18-06 02:39 PM by ECH1969
A Pakistani man has committed suicide outside his fiancee's home after he thought he accidentally killed her while trying to persuade her to get married early, police said Saturday.

The man, Ahmed Ashraf, was shooting a gun in the air outside his fiancee's home in the southern city of Karachi on Friday as part of his efforts to persuade her to get married two months early when a stray bullet accidently hit her, police said.

"He was so eager to get married he stood in front of his fiancee's house and started firing shots in the air to catch her attention,". The young woman was coming downstairs when a bullet ricocheted off a wall and hit her.

Ashraf had told his fiancee, Naureen, he would do something drastic if she didn't agree to get married straight away.

2. And they say that weddings are only for women!
I'm sure his urgency had something to do with the whole no sex before marriage rule. I can't understand this. Madness.

6. hmm. what goes up must come down, too... those bullets in the air always
come back with about the same speed as they left the gun... physics is a bitch!

11. You might want to consult that old physics book again.
I'm sorry but bullets do not fall at anywhere near the velocity they were fired at.

I have personally been hit on the top of my head by a falling 150 grain bullet fired from a from .357 Mag. It was quite unpleasant but I've banged my head worse in the crawl space.

That said there is no doubt that shooting into the air is a very poor idea. If you must use your gun to make noise then fire it into the ground. It makes the same amount of noise and you know exactly where the bullet went.

12. Only in a vacuum...
bullets aren't heavy enough to maintain supersonic velocities in freefall.

HOWEVER, a bullet fired not straight up, but at an angle, can reach the ground a long way away with enough velocity to kill someone, and a sufficiently heavy bullet could still cause serious injury even if fired precisely straight up. So shooting up in the air is still a very bad idea.

10. Wow, what a lucky young woman!
So many women don't get such a clear cut sign that they are about to marry a wacko.
