Air America Co-Founders Start New Liberal Talk Network

Anita Drobny and Sheldon Drobny, co-founders of Air America Radio, along with partner Dr. Mike Newcomb, have formed a new Liberal Talk Radio network, Nova M Radio. Newcomb will host a show on the new network, to launch on KPHX Phoenix, as will former Air America host Mike Malloy, Peter B. Collins and pollster John Zogby.

The Mike Malloy Show will initially broadcast live, from 9PM -12 Midnight ET beginning October 30, and will be made available to affiliates. Malloy's show will also stream live on www.novamradio.com.

Malloy, who was cut loose by Air America in August, said, “Yikes! That was close. To not be on the air during perhaps the most critical election in modern US history would have been a real bummer. But, we're back."

Hooray! Now we can listen to Mike Malloy again!

Does anyone know if www.whiterosesociety.com will continue to archive Mike's new programs?

12. I read somewhere that his shows tomorrow & Friday will be
archived on White Rose. Mike is filling in for Jerry Springer
those 2 days. I don't know about Mike's show starting on the
30th.

17. Mike... is filling in... for... Jerry... Springer...
Yes, I read about that as well. Too funny.

I know there is little if any love lost between those two.

7. Damn straight -- guess the format's making some money, eh?
Edited on Wed Oct-18-06 04:50 PM by LSparkle
AAR has had management problems (not to mention losing Chicago and LA thanks to some snarky station owner). The fact that there's now more than one network shows the IDEA was a good one!

6. Is it a network or just a station? That may be why everybody is not talki
talking about more than they are.

14. It is a network
There are 2 stations now. They will be acquiring more.
Phoenix http://www.1480kphx.com/ is the flagship station.
You can listen to it online.

8. It's just too damn bad we don't have a Fairness Doctrine
anymore. Then these guys could compete headon with the neocons. AM radio has the largest audience of any medium 24/7 and it is everywhere. At home, at work, and in the car. And it is totally free.

16. And I never listen to local AM anymore
Nothing on but neocon shills. I got XM so I could hear
Air America-then they canned Mike Malloy. I'm waiting
to see if Sirius picks him up. If so, I'll switch.

23. And Is A Big Reason For The Mess We Find Ourselves In Today
Ever wonder why the rural areas are so red?

R/W propaganda monopoly. In rural/working class circles, AM radio is pervasive.

24. You aren't kidding - I live in "Blue State" Pennsylvania
but get outside of Pittsburgh and I would guess Philadelphia and you might as well be in the rural South, Midwest or West. In Pittsburgh there's one low power station that carries local liberal Lynn Cullen and Thom Hartmann's afternoon show. Two big stations one AM, one FM carry a local wingnut and national wingnuts.

But get outside the city and you're really doomed. I had to drive to West Virgina recently, and once I lost the local liberal station I started scanning the AM dial - I kid you not there was Limpballs on at least 10 stations and Hannity on a couple more.

Today I drove to Erie - scanned stations 5 Limpballs and a Gallagher - no wonder there's so damn many koolaid drinkers.

18. Good to hear it-= Malloy was my favorite, but I don't listen to AAR anymor
even Randi Rhodes got boring--something happened to her--and never could stand Franken-althiough god knows I tried, over and over-the self promoter--out to make a name for himself and no one else--

I like Malloy--and am glad he has another job--please keep us updated as to how we can tune in to Malloy.

19. I know you'll be able to stream him live from the Phoenix station
Come Oct. 30, I would imagine you could just go here:

http://www.1480kphx.com/

Also imagine that White Rose will continue archiving, although Nova M might have some kind of subscription requirement. Either way, I'm looking forward to hearing him even though I'm nowhere near Phoenix.
