Christmas warriors declare the war rages on
http://www.therealitycheck.org/TRCMediawire/adf122805.htm

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - After compiling the numbers regarding the attack on Christmas in 2005, the Alliance Defense Fund has found that the data continues to support the presence of an assault on the celebration of Christmas in America.

"Anyone who claims that the attack on Christmas was a myth must have a hidden agenda," said ADF Senior Counsel Gary McCaleb. "ADF received more than 400 calls on Christmas this year alone, and this is an unprecedented number of calls for us on this issue. Frankly, it's ridiculous that so many people would need to call a lawyer in order to celebrate Christmas."

ADF launched its third annual Christmas Project in an effort to inform Americans of their First Amendment rights to celebrate the holiday that commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ. A November 2005 Gallup poll found that 95 percent of Americans celebrate Christmas; however, ADF received numerous reports of violations of the rights of Americans to engage in religious expression in public with regard to the holiday.

<snip>

"These attacks on Christmas are about more than candy canes and nativity scenes," said McCaleb. "ADF will continue to be at the forefront of religious liberties cases as it was this Christmas, as it will be next Christmas, and all the months in between. This is only the beginning."

1. These nutjobs would probably like to mandate nativity scenes
It's not enough that they be allowed to have their little nativity scenes, I think if they had their way, they would be mandated. But that menorah or Star of David? We'll quietly take that one down, thank you very much.

2. Oh, when will they give it up.
I have never seen such a non-issue in my life.
Was anyone prohibited from uttering "Merry Christmas?" or was anyone stopped from attending the church service of their choice?

4. If you choose not to celebrate
Valentines Day, no one give's a rat's ass. But if you say you want to opt out of That Certain Obligatory Greedfest, you're the most vile, despicable creature on the face of the earth.

I think I'll force everyone not only to observe Grandparent's Day, but I'll make them celebrate it my way. Everyone HAS to do what I do - NO exceptions. Where's your spirit? You horrible monster you.

5. "ADF received more than 400 calls"
I keep remembering an old suspense (pre-slash-and-gore-horror films) movie - the tagline was "The phone calls are coming from inside the house!"

I wonder, did all 400, or just the majority, of those calls to ADF come from their own phones????

10. 400 Calls?!?!?
There are 280 million people in the United States. This is almost a statistical zero!

9. "more than 400 calls on Christmas this year alone"
400 complaints, is that supposed to sound like a big number?

I can't really come up with a scenario for what could possibly happen to a person, on Christmas Day, that would impede their ability to celebrate Christmas. I mean, impede it even in an imaginary/psycho/Bill O'Reilly way. Since that day is traditionally spent celebrating at home with friends and family, what events occurred to make 400 people feel their rights were being violated?

Did they run up to the corner for some smokes or to gas up the car and had their religious freedom threatened because the cashier told to have a 'happy holiday"? They need to be informed that O'Reilly himself, the 4-star general who provided such brave and inspiring leadership while leading the WAWOC, well, even he said "happy holidays" was a permissable greeting.

Or, were these 400 scheduled against their will to work shifts at the 7-11, and so they complained to the "Alliance Defense Fund" as a way of raising a stink about it? Because being put on the schedule against one's will is a retail tradition that's been around a hell of a lot longer than the WAWOC. No doubt there were disgruntled cavemen who were pissed about having to work at the Sharpened Stick Emporium on the day everyone else got to lay around by the firepit gnawing on a sumptuous feast of rancid blubber.
