ACTFORCHANGE ACTIVISM UPDATE: October 23rd, 2006
** URGENT ALERT **
Vote No on California Prop. 90 -- a Terrible Taxpayer TrapRadical 'Takings' Proposal to Become California Law?
California Proposition 90 poses as reform of eminent domain -- but
there's a huge trojan horse lurking in the fine print.
Proposition 90
is actually a radical right-wing "takings" proposal that would
completely disable local government's ability to regulate land use in
order to protect existing properties and the integrity of our
communities. The way Prop. 90 works is simple. Anytime our government wants to
protect open space, prevent an inappropriate development, save an old
growth forest, or restrict offshore oil drilling, Prop. 90 would
empower hordes of people to sue the government and collect
compensation if they feel their properties, businesses or any
potential future profits have been compromised.
It's a horrible idea -- but unfortunately, polls show many California
voters completely unaware of the "poison pill" lurking within
Proposition 90. So here's what you can do to get the word out and help
keep this horrible idea from becoming law in our state:
1. Vote No on Prop. 90 -- and tell all your friends to do the same!
Grassroots networking is a very powerful tool, so take a stand, take a
few minutes, and share this message with your friends and family.
2. Get involved with the campaign by visiting the No on Proposition 90

campaign.
Two years ago in Oregon, voters passed a similar ballot initiative,
Measure 37. Since then, more than $5 billion in claims have been filed
against the state of Oregon -- seeking to force compensation unless
projects such as a pumice mine and power plant in a national monument,
and a gravel mine next to residences, are approved.
Simply put, Prop. 90 is nothing but a stalking horse for a group of
out-of-state, anti-government extremists who would impoverish
Californians both environmentally and financially.
Proposition 90 is
masterminded by Howie Rich -- a wealthy New York libertarian who is
contributing millions (through a secretive network of front groups) to
pass similar property-rights initiatives all over the country. On the other side, the coalition opposing Prop. 90 includes more than
300 diverse business, labor, environmental, taxpayers, civil rights
and public safety groups -- from all over the political spectrum.
