Hey, Texans supporting Kinky Friedman...look at this poll.
Edited on Thu Oct-26-06 08:38 PM by madfloridian
Bell is so close. I have a family member there in Texas determined to vote for Kinky. I hope this latest dissuades him.

From an email today from Glen Maxey:

"So what do you do when a Democrat is poised to win statewide inTexas?

As I listen to Democrats around Texas, it’s like we have severe case of the "Stockholm syndrome," The Stockholm syndrome is a psychological response sometimes seen in an abducted hostage, in which the hostage exhibits loyalty to the hostage-taker, in spite of the danger in which the hostage has been placed.

When Brian Eppstein, the Republican political guru does a poll for Kay Bailey Hutchinson, you know they aren’t cooking the Democratic numbers!

10/24 Eppstein/Bailey

Perry 32

Bell 27

Strayhorn 20

Friedman 9

So we can all continue to be good hostages to Republican corruption, cronysism, and greed, or we can do something about it.

We can continue to act like we’re powerless because of a red state “we can’t win” state of mind."

On edit...why is this huge space at the bottom of my post??

1. That 9% for Kinky is keeping Bell out of the Governor's Mansion
Nader Freeman is serving his Republican masters well...

Go, Chris Bell! Sic 'em and bring the Texas GOP to its knees!

9. I'm totally uninformed about this race
Did the repubs get Friedman to run just to pull votes from Bell, knowing his legalization of marijuana platform would appeal to younger voters? What about Strayhorn's 20%? Is that being pulled from Perry voters? If so the Friedman issue could be moot.

20. In TX, we need a plurality......
I believe that Strayhorn is pulling votes from Perry. She is a hardcore repub who is only running as an "Independent" because she would have gotten her ass kicked by Perry in the primary. People voting for her are repubs who don't like Guv Goodhair for one reason or another.

If all the stupid, uninformed idiots voting for Kinky finally got their shit together and voted for Bell, we'd have this in the bag. Friedman is running to line his own pockets for the publicity. Think Jesse Ventura redux, only less "statesman" like - seriously, I mean that.

Those Kinky voting morons know nothing of the plurality system and they will end up with their absolute last choice by voting for the racist clown.

Kinky has run before as a republican, has only voted for republicans and is a racist MoFo, so you know who he's working for, and it ain't the true blue Dems of Texas.

are voting for her instead of Good Hair. So yes, she is taking votes away from repubs.

2. I would just love it if somehow Chris Bell could pull this one out
and defeat that puke Rick Perry.

I never liked Perry one iota and I like him less now.

3. yea! We're closing in! Kinky is a clown - a racist, republican clown.
The idea that anyone can overlook all the crap he spews, including his non-positions on everything, drives me up the wall. Bread & circuses, ya see.

Thanks for the post MadFloridian - and the one earlier about the Good Doc - I always love those!

Saw him on TV today and thought he was great.

10. Me, too
As you may've seen me posting about already, my die-hard Republican, Nixon-voting, Army Reserves, state police father voted for Bell. And so did my best friend's RW religious grandpa, and so did another friend's kool-aid swilling mom.

Here on DU?

I dare them to come out. :hide:

And I posted these numbers a couple days ago... have they been verified anywhere? I don't think so... so I try not to get too excited. But I think Bell is going to get more votes than expected.

that have showed up.

I kind of feel bad for them when they show up in the Texas forum and get a smack down on the issues. :)

Is this correct? Please, tell me it is! I've been cleaning up after a huge storm here that took a big bite out of my town so, I've not been able to keep up.

A Texas FYI, Chris will be in Austin tomorrow with Senator Kerry spreading the good word.

It's a poll by her guy. Most likely very reliable. I like Glen Maxey's style. He is very clear about what you guys facing.

19. This would make sense
Perry has turned the attack machine off "grandma" and onto Chris in full force. You should see the ad that says how Chris Bell is too "liberal" for Texas, for some reason that one always makes me giggle.

Kinky does. He voted for both of them in THIS election. If that doesn't tell you all you need to know, nothing will.

21. What does he say about his use of racial epithets & mandatory school prayer
& wanting to post the 10 commandments in all public bldgs, etc. etc?

I could never vote for anyone who is comfortable and unrepentant about using the word "nigger" repeatedly in public.

KBH poll report debunked

Oh, well. Paul Burka, who had heard about the same poll that I had, now says it didn't happen. Well, mostly.

Earlier in the day I mentioned the rumor that the Bell campaign had a poll showing their candidate just five points behind Perry (32%-27%). Not so, says Jason Stanford with the Bell campaign. He did state his belief that Perry's ceiling has dropped to 35% of the vote.

There's no love lost between Hutchison and Perry, as everyone knows, but I can't imagine that Hutchison would implant that dagger between Perry's shoulder blades (as much as she might like to), or that Bryan Eppstein, who does almost all of his political work for Republicans, would release a poll that hurts Perry and possibly the entire GOP ticket.

Burka had heard the poll in question was a Bell poll, whereas I had heard it was a Hutchison poll. (Why would Hutchison also poll in the Governor's race? As a sanity check. Quite a few of the State Rep and Congressional polls of which I'm aware have done similar things.) The fact that Bryan Eppstein would be reluctant to release such a poll doesn't mean it didn't happen, but I've since heard from another person, whom I trust, who says that he didn't conduct any such poll. So, that's all there is to it. I ran with a rumor and it bit me. My apologies for the confusion. I will update the earlier post to reflect this.

Of course, the reason why I was willing to believe this is that this mythical poll was in fairly close agreement with polls that we do know about, one from SurveyUSA and now another from Rasmussen. SUSA has Bell at 26, and Rasmussen has him at 25, in each case in second. They have Perry higher, at 36, but a third result pegging him at 32 would not have been ridiculous. It was believable and I believed it, but it didn't exist. Sucks to be me, but there you have it.
