Am I the only person on DU not worried about the election outcome?
I believe the Democratic Party will pick up seats in both the Senate and the House simply because voters are sick and tired of the Congress we currently have in office - even if for no other reason than because the people are fed up with the GOP Congress.

I don't know how many seats. I don't speculate on how many seats - I just believe seats will be lost by the GOP and gained by the Democratic Party.

I understand the possibility of election theft and voter fraud. It's always a possibility - it always has been a possibility. And after Selection 2000, I don't trust anything GOP near a polling center and I certainly don't trust anything GOP as an election official.(and those majority members of SCOTUS in the 5-4 Bush verses Gore decision are people I will never trust about anything)

Even still - I think Democrats will make gains.

Sure, I could be wrong - but as of right now, I feel a change coming.

2. Sorry, but a country, which "re-elects" a dud like Bush, is open to surprises.

6. Oh, I agree with that statement. Anything could happen
and with a Bush America, that anything can be some really bad stuff

But I still think the GOP will lose seats

3. Worry gets out the vote.
I'm freaking *panic-stricken* even though I'm confident we'll kick the bums out, because if for some reason we DON'T win... well, I don't want to imagine the next two years if that happens.

Stakes are too high not to be worried!

16. Oh, I feel great!
However, I also felt great on the morning of Nov 4, 2004, when I got up at 5:30 to be the first person at my precinct to vote. I remember every detail of that day -- singed into my memory -- talk about trauma!!

4. I'm concerned that once the Dems take over, the Bush Crime Family will pull another
9-11 event and scream "See we told you this would happen". In fact, I'm almost certain something like this will happen.

11. I would bet money on that. Better odds than investing in the market.
It's gonna happen. Count on it. They real economy will be exposed, the "attack" will come -- probably closer to 08 than 06 -- and they will be screaming " THE DEMS ARE DESTROYING AMERICA AND CAN'T KEEP YOU SAFE! TOLD YOU SO, TOLD YOU SO!" so loud it will knock out Cheney's pacemaker.

5. If the level of fraud is minimal, then Dems should definitely gain plenty o'seats...
But if the last six years have taught us anything, it's that these people have done and will do anything to stay in power. But they'll have to work extra hard to steal this one.

15. My post is mainly about how I "feel"
and I "feel" pretty upbeat.

I agree the Bush Cabal would do anything to retain power - but I guess how I feel is based on how people are reacting to everything.

Edited on Fri Oct-27-06 08:29 AM by Jim4Wes
but anxious to see big gains, I don't want to have just a slight majority in the House. I don't want to still be the minority party in the Senate. Your comments on vote fraud are basically what I believe as well. I think it is not helpful to spread the meme that peoples votes do not count.

13. Psssst.... election fraud. Not vote fraud.
Vote fraud implies that the voter had something to do with it.

17. I think it can discourage people if they think "what's the point?"
Even when I sometimes wonder, "what's the point?", I do it anyway - but not everyone is like that.

I'm just going on feeling here. It's how I "feel"

- which may not have anything at all to do with reality. :)

We've a lot of anguish already - so maybe, just maybe, the change is beginning now.

I expect the GOP to challenge like crazy as well...but I think the people are tired and I base my "feeling" on that.

There's an undercurrent of discontent
It's palpable, that couple with the jesus people getting pissed, the economic people getting pissed at the current gang of thieves, I believe they're scraping the bottom of the barrel for supporters, and whistling past the graveyard to show how brave they are.
No, i'm not worried, because either way we're coming to a watershed, if they try to cancel or steal this election, things are going to get ugly. :hi: agent mike.

25. I look at this next election as a step - just one step
like getting your foot in the door and then using that foot to kick the door wide open.

I don't know what happens after that first step....but the first step is the important one.

I'm basing my feelings on how people around America are reacting to Congress - and how Americans living in Germany are reacting to Congress. In my community - the military community - a lot are disgusted. With Bush, with Congress - and they want change.

30. Problem is the "winner take all" nature of Congress
I'm confident the Democrats will make gains.

But unfortunately, the rules of the game in Congress is "winner take all." Even if the GOP slips to a one-seat majority in the Senate, they still get to call the shots there. So it'll still be "close but no cigar" just like inb 2000 when Gore won the popular vote but we still got Bush.

Maybe -- hopefully -- the Democrats will get a majority in both Houses. That would make a difference.

31. True.
If all members of Congress worked toward the betterment of the country and her people, there wouldn't be a "winner take all" attitude.

Frankly, those who are elected to Congress need to be those who understand their job is not a gravy train of position, power, and entitlements - it's for the people.

32. The GOP attitude on the Torture Bill was a stark example of that
The Democrats proposed all kinds of amendments to the Torture and Wiretapping Bill that would have at least addressed their legitimate concerns in the bill.

But rather than compromise and allow the Democrats to have input, the GOP chose to move in lockstep and refuse to make any amendments that might have at least made the bill more palatable.

Their "No Compromise" attitude pissed me off as much as the basic bill did.

34. I feel it too
There is a huge current against the coming dictatorship.

I am amazed at how many Publicans have turned against their leadership. Its worse now than right after watergate!

I will make a prediction: at least 59 new House seats will be ours after Nov. 7.

I think this election will go down in history as one of the largest landslides ever. I can feel it, I can see it, and I can hear it.
