4. Really?
I can't believe with support for the current war so low that they would imbark on another one.

They should let Iran have nukes. Every nation should have the right of self-determination. It certainly isn't moral to have this "do as I say not as I do" philosophy.

5. I wouldn't trust them
to use logic about war. They won't be happy until they get rid of everyone they don't like.

snip
"There is a massive concentration of US naval power in the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea. Two US naval strike groups are deployed: USS Enterprise, and USS Iwo Jima Expeditionary Strike Group. The naval strike groups have been assigned to fighting the "global war on terrorism."

War Games

Concurrent with ths concentration of US Naval power, the US is also involved in military exercises in the Persian Gulf, which consists in "interdicting ships in the Gulf carrying weapons of mass destruction and missiles"

The exercise is taking place as the United States and other major powers are considering sanctions including possible interdiction of ships on North Korea, following a reported nuclear test, and on Iran, which has defied a U.N. Security Council mandate to stop enriching uranium.

The exercise, set for Oct. 31, is the 25th to be organized under the U.S.-led 66-member Proliferation Security Initiative and the first to be based in the Gulf near Bahrain, across from Iran, the officials said.

A senior U.S. official insisted the exercise is not aimed specifically at Iran, although it reinforces a U.S. strategy aimed at strengthening America’s ties with states in the Gulf, where Tehran and Washington are competing for influence"

Some say it is just flexing our muscles. Others think it is putting all the pieces in place. I will say this: Iran is continuing with enrichment even with this exercise going on...so if it is a bluff there is no indication it will work.

I think Bush is planning on acting before the election. He has nothing left to lose. He knows he cannot do anything if the Dems control the HR or the Senate. And when you read the insider accounts of how he views his place in history, he really thinks he is sent here by God to save the world from evil. Megalomaniacs don't worry with polls or advisors or anything of the sort. Even Gerhard Schroeder wrote in his new book that meeting with Bush is a waste because his advisors keep insisting he is a man of god.

Here is a sentence I never thought I would write:

Man, I just hope James Baker can bring back the President from the brink of insanity.

on edit: spelling

9. West Point
is holding a statego tournament this weekend, I think that it is really war planning.

Two battle groups and a MEF do not an invasion make.

10. 4 strike-force groups are sitting around and waiting.
Edited on Fri Oct-27-06 03:49 PM by Rex
Why they call them strike-force groups should be telling. I know some of the people here laugh about the strength out there, but it is more navy hardware than any other country can produce. Who else even has 4 strike groups deployed in any one area? People can laugh, but that is enough force to level a moderate sized country.

IMO, this is all an expensive bluff by George and Karl. They might be able to level a country with hardware, but it takes people on the ground to occupy and we can't begin to produce those numbers. But don't kid yourself, that is a huge amount of weapons sitting and waiting off the coast of Iran.
