Testosterone Tumbling in American Males
FRIDAY, Oct. 27 (HealthDay News) -- The testosterone-fueled American male may be losing his punch.

Over the past two decades, levels of the sex hormone in U.S. men have been falling steadily, a new study finds.

For example, average total testosterone levels in men aged 65 to 69 fell from 503 nanograms/decileter (ng/dL) in 1988 to 423 ng/dL in 2003.

The reasons for this trend are unclear, said researchers at the New England Research Institutes in Waterdown, Mass. They noted that neither aging nor certain other health factors, such as smoking or obesity, can fully explain the decline.

"Male serum testosterone levels appear to vary by generation, even after age is taken into account," study lead author Thomas G. Travison said in a prepared statement.

Testosterone is the primary male sex hormone and plays an important role in maintaining bone and muscle mass. Low testosterone levels have been linked to health problems, including lowered libido and diabetes."

1. Adulterated. hormone-laced foods?
People who are 45 and under have spent an entire lifetime being fed "enhanced" foods.

they have also had an entire life with "plastics" and petroleum-based products.

People who are older, at least had their early years without many of these compounds

2. My guess . . .
. . . a couple of things. First, the increase in hormones used in the meat and dairy industry. Second, the vast increase in estrogen like compounds being leached into food and water from various plastics used in food. Third, possible increase in hormones from pharmaceuticals flushed down the toilet and ending up in the water supply. Fourth, more belly fat equals more estrogen leads to less testosterone.

7. They haven't fallen enough.
Sorry, bad attempt at humor.
I'm also of the opinion that all the chemicals we come into contact with every day has a great deal to do with this. Many of these chemicals take the place of hormones on the receptor cells and imitate estrogen. Very scary stuff. It's affected women, imo, in a greater percentage than men, but eventually, men will start having serious problems from it as well.

Maybe this fear of 'feminizing hormones' in the atmosphere will finally get those WASPy types to do something about the environment.

A Rottie lives here too, her name is Frisky. She want to be everybody's mother.

The more people I know, the more I love my dogs.

I just wish the avatars could be bigger so I could get Elizabeth, black/white female Greyhound, in there too.

26. Hormones in food and more fat on American male bodies
a possible cause.

Also, has anyone checked how increased stress affects testosterone? Most men (and women) are overworked in this country.

28. No shock. Between pollution on food-hormones.
Did the human corporate jerks ever take the time to connect the frogs being born sexless downstream from the corporate facilities, and the fact that it'll happen to us soon? It's more expensive to find dairy and meat that do not have hormones in them, but it's worth it. It CAN'T be good for you.
