VIDEO: Lynne Cheney Unhinged On CNN
http://thinkprogress.org/2006/10/27/lynne-cheney-cnn/

Lynne Cheney repeatedly attacked CNN for having a liberal bias during a fiery and combative appearance today on the Situation Room.

Cheney said a CNN special that aired yesterday was a “terrible distortion of both the president and the vice president’s position on many issues,” in part because CNN used the phrase “domestic surveillance” to describe the so-called “Terrorist Surveillance Program.” When Wolf Blitzer pointed out that some individuals have been arrested and interrogated despite having no ties to terrorism, Cheney warned, “I think that you might be a little careful” declaring someone has “clean hands.”

Later, Cheney criticized Virginia Senate candidate Jim Webb for including sexually explicit material in his novels. Asked whether her own novel Sisters had “lesbian characters,” Cheney said, “no, not necessarily. This description is a lie. I’ll stand on that.” In fact, her novel did contain multiple scenes describing a lesbian love affair.

Repeatedly, Cheney asked Wolf Blitzer to end his line of questioning and about her new children’s book.

I thought Blitzer did OK. He didn't slap her around or anything but it was enlightening to see the kind of pressure that is probably frequently applied to the media by the admin.

There's no doubt in my mind that he came away from the interview calling her names in his head. She worked him over and he fell to his knees.

I have never seen Blitzer become so meek and I bet he resented it, in the words of Dick Cheney - big time.

I hope it influences CNN to go after the truths of our invasion, occupation and pillaging of Iraq with vigor.

Lynn Cheney reminds me of Barbara Bush.

people should know what our troops are up against, so they can make an informed decision in the upcoming election. An informed vote is the greatest support we can provide the troops.

Edited on Fri Oct-27-06 07:39 PM by loindelrio
I grew up watching Americans getting gunned down in prime time.

It was called VIETNAM.

Made me a LIBERAL and ANTI-WAR.

Hmm . . .

on-edit: ANTI-WAR unless all diplomatic means have failed. I am NOT a pacifist. I simply believe in the existential truth of the following statement:

Never, never, never believe any war will be smooth and easy, or that anyone who embarks on the strange voyage can measure the tides and hurricanes he will encounter. The statesman who yields to war fever must realize that once the signal is given, he is no longer the master of policy but the slave of unforeseeable and uncontrollable events.

- Sir Winston Churchill

60. When Americans are getting gunned down in prime time
which they are, I think people should see it. We don't see the caskets coming home, we don't see the people being killed - it's so easy to pretend there's not a war going on. A war that we're losing, and that is killing more Americans (and innocent civilians, as well), every day.

I think we need more of those "snuff" videos on prime time, myself, if in fact, that's what's going on in the world. Reality isn't always pleasant.

And why do you keep bringing it up? What I'm in favor of is having people know the reality of war. I'm not talking about politics, I'm talking about NEWS. It has nothing to do with a "duckworth" video.

Why single out one person when there are so many victims of this senseless war? Because she's a Democrat running for office? Your argument, if that's what it is, makes no sense, and has nothing to do with ANYTHING.

92. When I was 16 years old
I would sit at the dinner table and watch BIG STRONG MEN holding up Necklaces made of the HUMAN EARS of their kills.

All this KNOWING that in TWO SHORT years I would be standing there watching that IN PERSON, having been drafted in 1971 and enlisting in the USAF instead of being a ground pounder.

I watched as a kid while they made pronouncements that "384 VietCong were KILLED today, and one american Troop suffered from a HANGNAIL" KNOWING that was sheer utter BULLSHIT.

I served my country, and I saw what it did to some of my best friends, I don't attend High School Reunions because Not Only is the Rate of Attrition for balding fat guys who have heart attacks who used to be football heroes cause for MEN to be missing, but the fact that MANY in my Graduating class had their FUCKING BRAINS BLOWN OUT and aren't there to CELEBRATE.

SO NO Reunion for me.

It was a responsible Media SHOWING the HORRORS of war that forced the Middle agers to get out there with the 'hippies' and SAVE MANY MANY LIVES that would have been squandered. My cousins, the ones that didn't die were NUTS and no one would marry them for their SCREAMS in the night that never ended.

How about NO ONE sees this stuff, and that INCLUDES TROOPS, they DON'T get sent into a War zone for NO REASON, so they don't SEE the Horrors THERE or ON TV?

And now they may want MY SONS?

They'd better PACK A FUCKING LUNCH, and they can RUN that SHOWDOWN ON CNN TOO.

Get fucking REAL my friend, or go sign up and SAVE BUSH's ASS by fighting for whatever the fuck they TELL you they are fighting for.. they are fighting for their LIVES, handed a gun and surrounded by the enemy, they have no CHOICE once sent there..

Give me a Break.

21. I think someone had to super-size her martini immediately after that!
OMG.. she was tap dancing, wasn't she??? Trying to lecture him, but coming off so freakin full of shit! Is Wolf's show a commentary show? Because I think he should have just blown off her question about whether or not CNN "wants the terrorists to win". That was so fucking stupid.

24. Mrs. Darth in her own words:
"The women who embraced in the wagon were Adam and Eve crossing a dark cathedral stage - no, Eve and Eve, loving one another as they would not be able to once they ate of the fruit and knew themselves as they truly were."

source: http://www.perrspectives.com/blog/archives/000385.htm

And, from this article: http://www.spokesmanreview.com/breaking/story.asp?ID=2662

<snip>

But then there’s another book, written by another well-known political figure, and it’s a doozy. Throughout its pages are fornication (the heroine with her late sister’s husband), incest (half brother knocks up half sister), adultery (the heroine, with her first husband’s friend), contraception (by the wed and the unwed) and lesbian couplings (the heroine’s sister and an older woman). And incidentally, lynchings, dogicide, cattle theft and robber-baronism.

I smell blood.

28. I could not BELIEVE it when she asked,
"do you want us to win?" with regards to Iraq reporting.

Blitzer should've taken personal offense at the suggestion that he's a traitor because CNN occasionally reports something that the Bush Administration doesn't want people to know.

I wonder, when Lynne Cheney says "us", does she mean the people at Halliburton or the people in her yacht club?

48. Time for Randi to start playing the reading of 'Sisters' that Joann Allen
in the AAR news department used to do for her program. It was hysterical, but Joann Allen no longer works there so they may not have permission to broadcast her reading it any longer. Too bad, it would be very interesting to hear it again now. And perhaps get KO to play it.

64. Snarling little kitty cat got pissed. She took control of the conversation.
He asked one question that was not a soft ball and she threw a hissy fit. "You want to talk about distortion?"

She completely veered of and changed the subject to a total non sequitor. She gets fiesty when cornered. He should have been more forceful in steering that "interview" in my opinion.

Bush and Cheney inherited a recession? We had the lowest unemployment in a generation, the highest rate of home ownership ever, and the budget was in surplus when Bush & Cheney took over.

83. I can't believe what theyse people are telling lies over now
I haven't read Mrs. Cheney's novel, but since I can fact check what she's saying with a trip to the library, why is she being defensive?

The lady did not come across well at all. Wolf Blitzer has been a good ally of the junta for years, so who is she to impugn his patriotism (which she defines as supporting the junta). She was the one not allowing Mr. Blitzer to talk to her about the book.
