The Weekly Standard loses more than a million dollars a year.
Interesting note from the New Yorker profile of Rupert Murdoch, who owns William Kristol's pathetic neo-con rag.

I guess the free market has spoken on The Weekly Standard. And the free market has said that The Weekly Standard sucks. It loses over a million dollars a year.

1. But it's still there.
So much for free-market theory.

2. As a dollop of whipped cream for this thread, a quote from Mr. Kristol
"There's been a certain amount of pop sociology in America ... that the Shia can't get along with the Sunni and the Shia in Iraq just want to establish some kind of Islamic fundamentalist regime. There's almost no evidence of that at all. Iraq's always been very secular."

—William Kristol, National Public Radio, 4/1/03

Its point isn't to make money; its point is to legitimize NeoCon Bullshit
by wrapping it in a fake aura of deep thought and wide popular support.

4. This reminds me of that "socially irresponsible" mutual fund that loses
money for investors.

But, yeah. Point well taken. It's a propaganda organ. Question is when the "pragmatist" Murdoch will have had enough. Or if he ever will.

5. It's the Moon phiosophy of media management
Spread lies and hate, no matter how much it costs.

And it doesn't work for the Washingtoon Slimes, either.

6. They sorta said the same thing about Canada's National Post. Also
a neocon rag. And didn't Fox News run for years at a deficite?

8. I haven't seen the Weekly Standard in two years,
but I was always struck with how snarky, nasty and humorless it could be.

Almost like a message board!:-) Not much like a national publication worthy of deeply serious consideration.

9. & BARNES & Billy "William" KRISTOL strut around like they're SOMEbody!!1
Let's see, Billy is another son-of-Somebody, and he was Dan QUAYLE's KKKarl---yip, a losing enterprise all around. And yet he wears that insufferable sniff on himself.

10. These "publications" are NOT real.. They are propaganda
they don't have to make money. Their purpose is to be out there molding opinion..nothing more..

They are merely "advertising" for the right wing neo-cons..

11. It used to be the cm could validate...
the "opinion" of these folkers. Now, the cm itself is becoming invalid and loosing power to legitimize these enterprises. By limiting product placement (by allowing or disallowing reference), blogs can narrow the focus and direct the conversation; however, the amount of information available allows for leakage around the seams. The ship of state manned by the mechanisms of oligarchy can not bail fast enough...she becomes a ghost ship lost at sea.

There is hope!
