A public apology to DUers
Edited on Sun Oct-29-06 11:42 PM by Bluzmann57
Earlier, I posted something about college educated "cube rats" (not my term) and Union members. It had to do with whether the people who are college educated really and truly support those of us who are not. I could say that I was under the influence of alcohol, but that is not an excuse. I could say that I was upset but that is not an excuse either. So I will say that I am sorry if I offended anyone, and it certainly looks like I did. I am also going to say, that after November 8, it may be time to take a break and get away from all of this. Anyway, once again, I apologize. I am not going to comment any further.
edited. I did my proofreading and found out I still can't type well at all.

2. No prob Bluzmann!
Just remember not all college-grad, tofu-loving liberals are enemies of the working stiff. We're usually just working stiffs ourselves. See you on the picket lines buddy. ;)

11. Maybe Because Generalized Inaccurate Smears Should Always Be Apologized
for when the person who waged them realizes they did so in error.

Personally, I find what you wrote above to be an unfair and generalized inaccurate broadbrush smear as well. But based on its tone, I'm sure there won't be an apology forthcoming. But to each their own.

which you are sorry. If you said something regrettable, at least you have the guts to open up and talk. THAT is what I hope this forum is about. Carry on & engage, I welcome that.

...but just for the sake of solidarity let me say that I'm about as "college educated" as it gets-- Ph.D. and a professional academic-- but I'm a union man to the bone. My union will have a stike vote soon. There are lots of us out here. We support our brothers and sisters who work for a living. Period. We appreciate your support too.

Don't worry about it too much, but let this be a lesson 'bro-- posting under the influence is often pretty embarrassing the next morning!

20. Well, I'm a gun-owning hunter with a pickup, a union stiff (at least until
I hung up that job & launched out on my own), and of course a PhD. I saw the original post & started to reply but had second thoughts because it seemed that my post was going to contribute nothing in particular to the thread. As I recall what I was about to post, which was pretty much what I just did post, I guess I was more defensive than offended.

22. ok-- I read the post you're apologizing for....
Sounds like you ran into an ass. I'd probably have reacted just like you did. Dude, I'm better educated than that dickweed, and I'd be screwed if it weren't for my union. In America, workers who aren't organized are fodder, and unless we get our act together in very broad solidarity even the organized workers are going to be screwed. Anyone who says they are too well educated to need union representation-- and union solidarity-- is deluded. They will be ground up and discarded. Piss on that. I'm with you-- we are all in this together and folks like that will fall by the wayside.

There is power in a factory, power in the land
Power in the hands of a worker
But it all amounts to nothing if together we don't stand There is power in a Union

Now the lessons of the past were all learned with workers' blood
The mistakes of the bosses we must pay for
From the cities and the farmlands to trenches full of mud
War has always been the bosses' way, sir

The Union forever defending our rights
Down with the blackleg, all workers unite
With our brothers and out sisters from many far off lands
There is power in a Union

Now I long for the morning that they realise
Brutality and unjust laws can not defeat us
But who'll defend the workers who cannot organise
When the bosses send their lackies out to cheat us?

Money speaks for money, the Devil for his own
Who comes to speak for the skin and the bone
What a comfort to the widow, a light to the child
There is power in a Union

The Union forever defending our rights
Down with the blackleg, all workers unite
With our brothers and out sisters from many far off lands
There is power in a Union.

25. I like your apology and I think it was owed.
My husband, a PhD physicist, has been the union spokesperson at the college he works for many years, on and off. He is aided in his pursuit of fair wages and good benefits by a tremendous bunch of other faculty members with terminal degrees, staff members with masters degrees, bachelor degrees, and other employees with HS diplomas. Some of these people earn about ten thousand bucks more/year than I did as a temp last year (first job after sixteen years as a housewife). Some earn less. IOW, they're being screwed too.

Judge not, my friend. Thanks for the apology.

26. workers have been bastardized along with the label 'LIBERAL'
by the Pnac media.

it is no wonder that we spin-out into resentments.
I do that with religion because of the direct and indirect impact the religious have on my life -AND SHOULD NOT HAVE.

I'm a proud union member with a college degree and who works in a cube. So your post pissed me off. I'm also married to a union carpenter and so I know exactly what you're saying in your other post and nod in recognition.
